New (to me) stainless 1022

I picked this up at a LGS last weekend. I had been interested in the Mannlicher models and I liked this one better than the blued/walnut models. S/N comes up as a 1994 01132.
I noticed a little surface rust on the barrel at the shop and figured it would polish off.
Some Brasso got rid on most of the rust and only left some pitting under the muzzle where the stock touches it.
Overall it's not in bad shape with only a couple small dings on the stock.

Looked at some picture online and they show a stainless trigger group on the green model. (Black group on the black laminated stock model.) The stainless/walnut model also showed a SS group.
I guess the rail is also aftermarket. I took it off and have to locate some SS screws to fill the holes.

I guess the big question is: Is it a Frankengun? Did someone swap out the SS group for another project?
The housing is polymer.
The trigger is pretty bad and I'll probably change it eventually. Just go with a BX, I guess.
When did they start putting the extended mag release on?
Suggestions on the pitting?
Without telling what I paid, what would the value on it be, as is?

If it just shoots well, I'll be happy with it. Going to be some time till then though.

I’d say that the trigger group was swapped out. A 1994 model wouldn’t have come with a polymer trigger.

my old SS mannlicher has a BX in a poly trigger guard now...I think it looks OK with the other black bits on the stock

extended mag releases came with all of the poly trigger groups

I don't remember what year they switched from the dovetail style mounts that matched the color of the receivers, to the newer style scope rails that Ruger uses now...but visually, I actually like the older one better..especially with an older rimfire scope attached

try lightly rubbing some oiled 0000 steel wool on the rust

Very nice ! If I saw it a a lgs for $350 or less , id try and buy it for a bit less. first see how it shoots , if its good, then Id do the following,
Trigger, Kidd drop in kit, you could spend less, but mho you dont want to.https://www.kiddinnovativedesign.com/KIDD-Trigger-Job-Kit-with-Hammer-Sear-Disconnect-and-Trigger-blade_p_116.html
Get a silver oem railhttps://sapoutfitters.com/ use code rfc and get 5% offhttps://sapoutfitters.com/
Wax the stock and the metal https://www.amazon.com/Renaissance-Micro-Crystalline-Wax-Polish-65/dp/B001DSZWEM/ref=sr_1_6?crid=19FA6RJX9315D&keywords=microcrystalline+wax&qid=1676690738&sprefix=micro+crystaline+wax,aps,157&sr=8-6 including the inletting and barrel channel.
but first take some steel wool to the barrel channel especially where the barrel rusted .
You might also tape bed the receiver, little strips of aluminum hvac tape on the receiver, includi the back, below the stock line so it sits tighter in the stock.

For some reason , the stock imho , these shoot better than the carbines and sporters with the same barrels.

Well, it looks like I got taken by the shop.
Either they didn't know about it or did and charged for a good one.
Oh well, live and learn I guess. I don't usually buy "collector" guns.

Made an S&P order for a BX trigger and silver scope mount.
Have to look into a silver scope, now.

The steel wool helped a little with the pitting. It's out of sight so no big.
Can't wait to see how it shoots.

I agree with the silver APV being a nice budget minded scope...picked one up myself awhile back

Here is my Davidson’s exclusive, purchased new ca. 2000. I went with a compact Simmons scope on this one, larger format scopes just looked out of place on this graceful rifle. It aggs around 1” at 50 yards with MiniMags and WW HV ammo.

Beautiful rifles guys!

I've wanted one of the full stock models for several years since I saw a nice grey laminate model in a LGS. I thought it was priced a bit high at the time and like a fool I walked away from it.

A few days later after thinking it over and coming to my senses I went back to get it and it was gone.

I see new black laminate models for sale online and I think I'm gonna' have to order one today before this opportunity passes me by as well.
Very very pretty. I had one not laminate but stainless. I got it as a Davidson special on sale for 399.00 iirc. Never shot it. Sold it anib. I think I thought it would have a longer barrel and lop. My buddy called me initially and said he would get two as the sale etc. No regrets, I do like the laminate, just my monkey arms would not fit the rifle. Enjoy !

Don't worry. After having first had an alloy trigger group on my first 10/22, then being snobby about the polymer ones, then getting a local sale 10/22 with the polymer style on it, I actually prefer the polymer ones now.

Range day report:
It shoots well enough and the BX trigger is nice.
I picked up a Chepas brand silver 9x32 off flea bay.
The scope has a stupid short eye relief and needed to be mounted back farther so I took the mounting rail to the table saw and made another slot where needed. Tolerable now.
I was only shooting at 30' but it made decent groups. As good as I could do, anyway.
Norma quiet cycled it just fine so just about anything should run it.

Not happy with what I paid for it but it's a nice looking, handy little rifle.
