There is a good chance the shops with higher prices might be higher priced models like the MOE Magpul models. The base model is just that with no flash hider on the end of the barrel either. They go all the way up to the Performance Center semi-custom model with its 18" threaded match barrel, Vltor stock and Hogue grip, which lists for $769 but can be had from a good shop for around $625. I am pretty sure the one you have it the Standard model that lits for $499.Well I did it, I went out and picked up a 15-22. I have been saving money for one but I didn't have enough for the full price.
I had been searching for a good deal, when I found a shop 75 miles away that had a price of $399! I checked with all of the local shops to see if they could even get close. The first shop didn't have any but they could order one for $600. The second one had one gun left, but they wanted $540. I even checked a shop out of town that I drive past for work and they wouldn't go lower than $469.
So I headed out for the long drive to pick it up. After having seen it, I say it was well worth it!
I got home and showed it to my son and he was thrilled. We went out the range, but I forgot my darned camera. I will try to get pics next week when I get back into town.
At the range, we shot Blazer bulk ammo. 300 rounds with no issues. No prior cleaning or lube. Just spot on functioning. The trigger was a little stiff, but nothing major. The accuracy was spot on for Iron sights. What a blast! I can't wait till tomarrow!
If you want to lighten the trigger I suggest going online to Brownells and buying the JP reduced power spring set. That will get the pull down to the 3-4# range.
