Got a new GM 18" ss fluted today, The cut for the extractor looks like it may be a bit to deep. It just fractionaly goes farther than the seat on the lip of the chamber. barely, but just enough when looking at the extractor milling from the side of the bbl, it looks like a small smiley face missing from the lip of cahmber. is this correct or has the cut been made mabey a few thousandths too much? OH yeah, by thew way..Whats the best place to buy a molly kit?

I got my new GM 18" ss fluted monday, I will have to look closer at that and see how it looks, Keep me posted on what you find out and I will measure my extractor slot and we can compare. I'm pretty sure our bbls are of the same lot so they should be the same.

Yup, its not right...I think?

I compared it to my no name stainless bbl when I got home, the no name has a completely intact seating surface for rim of cartridge the new gm does not. This is how it looks on the no name one.......inside lip of chamber where round enters is very slightly chamfered...extractor channel is cut across the face almost to where chamfering begins but there is mabey the thickness of a sewing needle of flat mating surface where rim of the cartridge seats between the inside of where the chamfering is cut and the outside where the channel for extractor is cut. On the GM the channel is cut slightly past where the flat mating surface would be all the way to the chamfer on inside edge of chamber, just slightly, hundreths of an inch, but definately slightly over. I know little about this stuff, but it seems to me you want the rounds rim seated all the way 360' deg. Im still scratching my head on this one.

Here you are, I can not tell but somebody with more knowledge may be able to help. I noticed last night that the 'Rim' on mine looks like it goes all the way around but it is paper thin at the breech face, like razor sharp. How this should it be there ?

The cut is very close to the chamber measures ten thousands at most. It has no effect on the strngth of the chamber. It lets the extractor grab the case. Some other type rifles it cuts fully into the chamber for a depth of about 20 thousands. Try it and you should find no problem.

If there is a chip broken off at the chamber it is defective.

Thanks XF2,

I had not even looked that closley at mine untill this thread, but wont having the chamber razor thin at the breach face on the extractor cut make it wear prematurly ?

I guess I will try it out and see what happens, I trust your expert advice and experience. I am not really qualified to have an educated opinion here, I am just relaying what I see:) .

Thanks again for the advice :t
