Need advice on a 17V

I am new to the board although I have read it often and posted once before. I am also new to Marlin bolt actions. I do have a 39M but just got into 17 HMR. My 17V barrel has 2 mounting screws, the front trigger guard screw and the main mounting screw. There is some epoxy added near the front end of the stock that the barrel rests on. Is that standard Marlin practice or should the 2 mounting screws allow full floating the barrel? Just a new guy looking for some help.
