This is a good thread. Keep to the original topic please. We strive to stay away from anything political to avoid hard feelings. Past experiences have taught us this is best for everyone. Thanks.

Sheesh!

I've seen all that. Many times. And discussed it all, many times. I don't support those who oppose guns just because they oppose guns. I opposed the .50 BMG ban, but I think it's a kinda silly weapon. I want to, and will, fire a S&W .500 Magnum someday soon.
We're veering into politics here, and that's not allowed. I think.
And I'm glad you guys are trying to encourage people to try shooting at least once. Some won't care for it. that's ok too, right?

What I've learned to like about RFC is that even with all the diversity of opinions, the friendship and help that gun owners are willing to extend to their fellow hunters/shooters is admirable . One thing we all have in common is the love of the sport. Whether you own guns for fun, target, hunting or just collect them, it's still an extremely satisfying past time.

Yes, we kid around and have fun and sometimes there's disagreements and sometimes heated discussions. But, after all is said and done, we're all believers in the right to have arms.

It definitely is a fun place to visit and learn...................

Glad I got into this thread. I pretty much straddle the fence. My wife never did much shooting, and that is ok. We finally moved out of town on several acres next to a river. A couple of years and horses later we learned about the ground squirrel badger cycle, and broken legs. I bought a 17 HMR and she grew to love it. Would come home at lunch time to pop a few. We no longer have that problem.

Last year the dogs where barking mad, my huskie in particular, I didn't even look and ran for my .357. She yells snake and I put in some charmers. This 4.5 foot snake was mad after striking at my husky. She gets the dogs inside and I dust the snake. Took two shots at about 20 yards. I have never seen a rattler so angry. Now my wife has a CCP and carries a snubby lightweight. She loves to shoot the 17. Our problem is under control and we have not shot a single gopher this year. Just targets. I got a new barrel for the 10/22 and she is learning to shoot groups. Hopefully the next step is USBR targets if I can find the right ammo. She sure like my .357 though mod 19. Sweet trigger on that one.

Kum-By-Yaw...now lets get back to the original thread

My former "anti" wife has instructed me to buy what I think would be best for her and that I would also enjoy. :D :t So to keep both of us happy, I'm going to get her/me a CZ 452 American. Perfect rifle for her to learn marksmanship with and perfect rifle for me to use in "hunter" class silhouette matches. :D :t

Now, can we all feel the love....Kum-By-Yaw ;)

cz 452 sounds perfect for her. maybe consider the "Style" model. If she be like mine, she likes things shiny and sparkly.

if i may, we don't have the rights because the amendments are there, the amendments are there because we have the rights.

I'm not convinced that the 2nd speaks to my right to own a gun. Again, I've discussed and studied all the theories. I feel I have that right in spite of that ammendment.
While I disagree and I might enjoy a discussion with you on this topic, politics are not to be dicussed here as per the TOS of RFC.

She, I mean WE, ended up with a Henry

I went to Sportsman's Warehouse today and they didn't have any CZ's in 22lr. They had LOTS of 10/22's, but I already have a VQ Custom. They had the Kimbers and Rugers, but I already had a CZ that shoots as well for hundreds less. They had a bunch of Marlins (not one 39 though), but they had awful triggers and really rough bolts. Then I picked up one of the new Henry octagon barrel rifles (H001-T) and it had a butter smooth action, a pretty nice trigger, great looks/fit/finish, and a grooved receiver to mount the Weaver 4x I had brought along. It came home with me.

I did a quick 100 round sight in and barrel break-in before dinner, then showed it to my better half. She said, "we'll have to go out tomorrow morning and have you show me how to shoot it." :D :t

Life is good.

It's a lever action! Cool. To me, LA's are a little awkward to use, but that could be memories of my Red Ryder. Price ain't bad at all. How's it shoot?
I didn't know those existed. You think you're pretty smart, but you might have trouble getting your hands on it after tomorrow. ;)
If I may be so bold.
Enjoy.

Back in 1985 I bought a BDA .380. The wife didn't see much use having a pistol around. I told her she needed to learn how to use it. We went to the range & my fingers got tired of loading the mags for her. When my oldest daughter was 8 & could hold up the BDA, I took her to the range for some father daughter bonding. It was fun watching her shoot it but she needed a leash. When the youngest was 9, I took her to the range but the range rules had changed and kids had to be 13. 2 years ago I finally got her to the range so she could try out a Keltec .32 her boy friend had bought her. I had my .44 and the BDA. She took to the BDA. Several months later I decided I needed a P22. She tagged along with her boy friend & I. I got the long barrel & she made her boy friend buy her the short barrel. Now when ever I take the wife & daughter out to shoot, the P22 is their gun. The oldest daughter says my 10/22 is cheating and goes back to shooting the P22. I invited my brother out for a shoot last fall. He fell in love with my 9mm and had to have one. I heard there was a big fight when he brought one home. Wife & I are trying to figure a way to get her out for a new mind set. I have a sister that married an Air Force general. She is almost anti gun. Go figure? I think I can get her out to the range for some paper punching with the P22. Seems if you have the right gun and some luck, people will come around. Been thinking about a Mark III for the collection & to have a rim fire pistol to shoot when out with the wife. Afraid the wife will take it too. She won't let me buy her one. She says" I don't need one, I'll just shoot yours".

Break-in range report for OLDLIB

OLDLIB,
The rifle is probably the best "value" I have bought since my first CZ in 1997. The steel receiver is "painted" like on a Remington 552/572, but appears to be much much much more durable...powder coat maybe. Fit and finish on the one I bought was excellent. The first one, the "floor model", had a loose fore-stock and had been dry fired a lot. The only 2 negatives are that there is no instructions on cleaning/lubricating the action and if/when you mount a scope you do need a hammer spur that is not provided or available(?) yet. The action is so smooth that you can cycle it with 1 finger and the trigger is really pretty good for a $279 rifle...a lot better than any out-of-the-box Marlin. The 4x Weaver needed to be mounted with "tall" Burris Zee rings to clear the rear sight and hammer.

It was real windy at the range, but after sighting it in, as close to zero at 50yds as I could with the wind, almost all of the next 65 rounds grouped in a hole about 1" high by 2" wide. Federal American Eagles HP"s grouped the best, Mini-Mag RN not as well, and it didn't like Wolf MT.

With my wife it was avoiding discussions about hunting or self defense with firearms. And getting a fun to shoot gun in her hands. A S&W 2206 of a friends and his 10/22 did the trick. Now she has her own 10/22 (Adams & Bennett fluted barrel and a WTC 18) that I put together for her.

Paul.
