My first SuperSport Heavy build

I build Sporters...not bench guns. With that in mind, I've got a favorite build. JD. I love that rifle. This rifle will be built in JD's image. Except this one will have a KIDD 20" barrel. Will it out shoot JD and the 17" GMHT? I don't know how it could... but we shall see. :D

This build was never supposed to happen. I was going to shoot my Lilja rifle this summer. However... I talked a very good friend of mine into buying some Kidd parts to build himself a rifle so I wouldn't have to shoot alone. Very selfish of me I admit. But hey he got me right back by spending some of my money...:( ;):D We really are enablers aren't we? :bthumb: I wouldn't have it any other way!

It's going to be awhile until shooting weather get's here to Montana. I'm going to take my time with this build.

At this point I've applied Moly Fusion to the barrel, bedded the receiver witch I Gunkoted flat black to match the DNZ scope mount and the V-24.

Here's a photo to let you see what it'll be like in the end.

Very nice BigSky1 very nice. :bthumb:

This rifle has its work cut out if to out shoot JD.
Yeah JD and the new Kidd look like brothers. I doubt that the new Kidd will outshoot JD enough that you could ever tell for sure. On any given day one will beat the other most likely..... Have fun trying to figure it out. :snipersmi:
That's a fine looking rifle Bigsky1. You got some range time coming my friend. If you spend as much time with this one as JD it will shine especially at 50 and 100 yards.:bthumb:
Classy piece there BS1. Like a bigger little brother to JD, you know like when a guy's "little" brother outgrows him?:D:bthumb:

I have had a theory for a long time that the .920 will not so much "out shoot" the .750 tapers as much as being easier to shoot well due to the added weight. I think it is pretty obvious why the centerfire BR shooters have (or at least used to have I have not looked in a LONG while) weight classes.

Back in the 1970's it was pretty common to have Heavy Varmint, Light Varmint and Sporter. Many guys shot all three classes but used only two rifles shooting their Light Varmint in both Light and Heavy Varmint and another rifle in Sporter.

Back then most of the top shooters shot 22s such as the .222 Rem, .222 Rem Mag or wildcats like the .222 1/2 which was smaller than the .222 Mag but bigger than the standard .222. Even when the PPCs first came on the scene most were 22 PPC (based on .220 Russian) except for the Sporters which required minimum 24 caliber or 6mm bullets. Many top shooters swaged their own bullets and pretty soon the 6mmPPCs started taking over the Varmint classes too so the guys only had to swage one type bullet.

Then they shot Light and Heavy Varmint with their Light Varmint and the Sporter with the same 6mmPPC rounds in the Sporter Class which I think also often was held to a lower scope magnification like 6X. For all I know the rules may still be like that in places.

Anyway that is why I think as far as mechanical accuracy there is not much difference .750 tapers to .920 bull but practical accuracy is better with the .920 simply because they are easier to shoot.

Back to your rifles it will be very interesting to see how well JD's "little brother" does when it comes to beating up on "big brother" JD :D:bthumb:

Gee was just looking....there is only ONE rifle on the SuperSport 100 yard MOA Game list. I run that game so maybe "Little Brother" could make it's way onto that one by the end of Summer huh?

Reminds me that the very first rifle entered on the Ultimate 100 yard list was a SuperStock:rolleyes: Just by dumb luck the first day DrGunner announced the game was the first day I shot one of my new SuperStocks (was African Rose) at 100. Pretty funny their first entry was a skinny .750 barreled SuperStock with a Ruger receiver, DSP stock (well sort of, it was bubinga, but it WAS Ruger). That was kinda fun you know?

I do not know about you but I think it would be kinda fun to put a couple more SuperStock or SuperSport rifles on THEIR list this Summer. We are legal for the game. Far be it from me to stir up a little something with our good Doc but it might be fun.

What do you think? Heck for that matter if you still have JD's 100 yard target .......:D:D

I have a sneaky feeling the 100 yd game is going to get some attention along with some others.:D
This is starting to sound like fun.

In the old days before Ultimate had a Moderator they started a different 100 yard game. It was very complicated if I remember right where it had to be mailed to different people to measure and was a pain. One of the guys doing the measuring was WAY off. Caused a big problem when one of the SuperStock Twins out shot some of their heavy weights.:eek:

I forget the details but the game rules were changed in the middle of the game and people got mad and the game died... I think even one of the Admins might have had to get involved.

DrGunner has done wonders for the Ultimate Forum. None of the problems that used to cause drama there and now they are building some fine rifles. :D:bthumb:
BigSky1, those are a couple of mighty fine looking rifles!!

Agreed, I do plan on shooting the 100 yard game this summer. As well as the 100 yard tack driver game. Hint Hint...:D In both SuperSport and SuperStock:bthumb: we can't let you be the only guy on that list can we?:p

I certainly have new found respect for the Ultimate forum since DrGunner has taken the reins. :bthumb: I would like to give their 100 yard game a run. I see your on that list now. They also have a version of a game that originated in SuperStock the "Ultimate hunting game". I will be playing there as its one of my favorites and rumor is it won't be run here.

Thank you!
When DrGunner took over Ultimate and it was obvious he was serious he asked if we would mind it the copied our games and I told him to go for it.

He also said that any SuperStock (there was no SuperSport yet) were welcome to shoot their games.

So much better than the way things used to be when SuperStocks were resented in Ultimate Years ago when the SuperStocks started out shooting some of the Ultimate they did not like us much. DrGunner is a good guy and he has done amazing things with that forum. Not only are their rifles truly Ultimates now but the whole thing is more friendly.

If I remember right my SuperStock made their game but is either last or close to last (their's IS a competition) but that was not the point for me. I like our good Doc a lot and I just happened to have the target laying on my computer desk from African Rose's first try at 100 so I thought it would be fun to one of the first on the list and it was the first entered!:D:D
You REALLY are a v-24 lover! :D

Are those Stocky's stocks?

Look forward to seeing the rest whenever its done. :bthumb:

There are more where those came from...LOL :D

Yes and no, the top stock is the real deal an S&K "Ultra walnut" stock. It's laminated with carbon fiber. The bottom is a replica of the S&K sold by Stocky's they call it the Classic.
Have ya shot the new rifle yet for a function test run ???
Looks great to me so far.

Swiss
No not yet, crappy weather here. We've had snow showers the last few days. I'm hoping for this weekend. The forecast is calling for upper 50s.
Here's one of the first targets shot at 50 yards with this rifle.

Well.... That is showing some real promise right? I did a rough average of the 9 groups @ .293 and the right 4 @ .278. Very promising indeed.

Disclamer: Calculator is dead and was done old fashioned way with scratch pad and pen so those numbers, rounded to the nearest thousandth could be off by and 2 or 3 inches!!

Nice:bthumb:

I do not see a reference to ammo used did I miss it? Believe me anything is possible today :bthumb:
