My Bergara B14R Did It

For those who read my post last week about my Retired Old People (ROP) Match, you'll recall that I missed my 500 by the thickness of a piece of notebook paper and scored a 499-18X. Today, with 8 shooters on the line, I scored a 500-18X by the same margin; the thickness of a piece of notebook paper. My targets are below and on target two, bull number 5, it was checked with a magnified circle and magnified plug by multiple people who all verified that it touched... barely. If it's not legit, I don't want it. My first target had four close shots but all easily made it.

Today's ROP Match was really tough as four shooters scored a 250 on the first target and one scored a 249. Remember that this is a "cheap" ammo match so these guys have found a cartridge costing $10 or less per box that their rifles like. On the line today were two high dollar Anschutz rifles, two custom Suhl 150's and a Vudoo. I think my Bergara can be proud. When the smoke had cleared, I won the match with the 500-18X. Second place was a 499-20X - he dropped a point on the final bull - followed by a 499-16X. There was also a 498-18X and a 497-27X.

So my factory stock Bergara (except for the Timney trigger and EC V2 Tuner) managed to best the big boys today. I'm really happy with it.

We would love to have you shoot with us. Our ROP Match is held every Thursday at 10 AM. All are welcome and we have a LOT of fun.
I have been contemplating buying one as I have heard a rumor that they have been accepted for ARA comps this coming season for factory class? Need to find out for sure from Killough's but I'm glad to hear they (at least yours) is a good shooter!! None in my area as of yet as far as I have seen. What ammo have you found to be the best in your rifle? Thanks in advance J.L.

So far I've been shooting mostly SK Pistol Match Special in mine. I haven't tried the more expensive cartridges like Center-X and upward in price. For our "serious" matches I shoot my Anschutz Match 54 but if the Bergara continues to shoot as it does, I may have to feed it some of the expensive stuff.
Nice shooting. I practice with the same targets but shoot 5 shot groups I think it's time to use them as they were designed. Shooting a match would be good for me. So no better time to start then now. Thanks for the pictures ,Sir. You have any inspired me.

Fantastic shooting. I have tried a lot of stuff to get mine to shoot “better”, but have stripped everything back to factory except my Jewell trigger. Ammo it likes, action screw torque and me are the top 3 things that improved mine. The ME portion was “really” relearning how to shoot. I thought I could until I saw what others could do.

Don’t hate me for saying this, but my only goal each week at our “Old Friends” match is for me to beat the Vudoos. LOL

Love this! Too often the amazing potential of the B14R is overlooked and /or understated as people focus in their small percentage of hardware issues.

I compete with doubs43. He is being modest here about his shooting skills. I'm a rookie at the rimfire bench shooting game and have learned an awful lot from him. His knowledge, patience and ability to relax under pressure is commendable.

He's got all the guys talking about his Bergara. As impressive as it is with the SK, I can't wait to see how it performs with the right premium ammo.

Rock on doubs43!

Actually, AlapahaJack is the one being modest. He's the ONLY one who has shot three scores of 500... two of them back-to-back. A little background on Jack's shooting skills. When he first began shooting our matches, he was using a bipod rather than a front rest and doing surprisingly well. It took awhile but we finally convinced him that he'd do better if he had a front rest. He now has a Sinclair rest and his scores have not only improved but he's become one of the very best and toughest competitors I face each match. I shoot with a great bunch of guys and Jack is one of them.

Superb shooting well deserved victory.
You have shown me what the B14R is capable of. Hope mine can do as well, or more accurately stated hope I CAN do as well with my B14R.

That is excellent work doubs.

I so happy that we shoot a 60 shot 50 metre BR In Aus.

🙂🙂
Has your Ec v2 tuner helped with your scoring ? Did you set it and forget it, or do you find yourself tinkering with it all the time? I have one but really haven't messed with it much.

Thank you. We found that more people turn out for a two target match than for a single target. One target just goes too quickly. A 60 round match would be great fun.

I think it has. I have tested only two different cartridges with it to get settings; SK Pistol Match Special and Lapua Center-X. I don't fiddle with it after I determine what setting works best but I will test again when I change lots of the same ammunition. Finding the best setting is worth a box of ammo IMO.
