Come to find out the bolt handle is a straight 90 degrees off the bolt body so it’s an A action. So quite possibly it could have been a barreled action in the box at one time. It will be a mystery.
in your defence [i also have these senior moments] i did not and would not have jumped to the B/A as barreled action but it does make perfect sense now that it was mentioned
I think the barreled action idea is likely a good one and how it was originally shipped. The stock is a Super America style stock with the later non-fluted cheek piece, which probably was assembled onto the metal later.
