A simple start is the reduced power spring set from John McCaw. Read up on changing the mainspring (hammer), very easy to launch parts (ball bearing, 3 handed job).
Snoop back thru last year's posts for Sumshooter's post. He did a mod on the trigger transfer bar, with an overtravel screw it breaks like a match 1911 trigger. Last one I did was for an old time Steel Challenge shooter's MK I.
Goodwrench,
I also like "On-Target"
I had Bill do the following to my Ruger Mark 1(s) and Mark 2(s).
Added:
Clark Trigger
Volquartsen Sear
Trigger Shield (also recommended by yzguy)
Extended Magazie Release
I had Bill install all of these and got what I think
is a great deal.
He did all four of the above mentioned upgrades
on three (3) Ruger frames plus added the trigger guard and extended magazine release to another Mark 2 for a total of $20 labor for all four guns.
The total (parts and labor) for all four..$201 (this included the return freight)
I've shot the heck out of a Mark 2 I sent to him a couple years ago and never once regreted that upgrade. (at that time I just had him add the sear and trigger).
I'm sure you can always shop and find a better deal, but I went with several recomendations and felt the deal was good for me since I'm not a 'smith.

The transfer bar mod gets rid of a take up, with the overtravel screw - the total trigger travel (measured at mid point) is less than 3/32" (more like less than 1/16"). A lot of consideration must be given to sear / hammer clearance (overtravel screw) and sear reset (xfer bar). 1911 & HS Citation/Victor shooters (amongst others) are used to short trigger travel.
any info on how to do this xfer bar mod?? no search...
