Mead Instruments...new scope line

I've been watching the various internet suppiers of optics for a Weaver V-16. While looking for the best price for "in stock" scopes I noticed that MidSouth suppy lists the Weaver V-16 under Mead Instrument. Mead bing the current owners of Weaver, Simmons... scope lines after ATK and Blount. What I noticed was that the MidSouth listed Mead-Weavers/Simmons have lower prices than the other suppliers. Also noticed that MidSouth lists the Weaver T-36 at $532 while the Mead-Weaver T-36 is $338 (same Weaver part number 849974)!!! I made a call to Weaver Tech Service and asked if there had been a change of manufacturer to the Weaver line. The answer was "...no change..". I ordered the V-16 at $229. Is this just a way for Mead to get advertising and save us some $$$'s or is something else going on?

I just looked and the two T-36 models that are "Low Stock" are $530-something and the two T-36s that are "On Order" are $330ish.

I wonder why they don't list the ones they don't have for a really stunning price like $104.95.

Time will tell what Meade does with all the new product lines they bought last year.

Natchez had the V16's on sale last month also for $229. They just listed them as "Weaver" in the flyer I received. If these are still the same Japanese manufactured scopes I might look into ordering one tomorrow from Midsouth. I was able to look through one tonight at a gun shop - they wanted over $300 for theirs.
Rick - thanks for the heads up on the V16 - just ordered one a few minutes ago! It will go on my 10/22 or my CZ452. I called Weaver and they informed me that their V16 scope was still made in Japan.
Meade is supposed to do a price reduction on the T36's starting at the big SHOT SHOW next month in Orlando on 2/13/03. I have heard it is worth your while to wait if you are considering one. Pricing back close to the good old days.

This is why current inventory is priced high but back ordered is much lower. People are getting their automated skews, marketing literature and catalogs ready for the price drop. Expect a significant price drop on the T-36 next month. Other scopes may also be effected. I have heard much excitement but no specifics beyond the T-36.

It may be wise to watch the "show" for a couple more weeks before grabbing a Weaver.

DO NOT FORGET THAT MEADE HIRED THE SAME CLOWNS THAT RAN TASCO OUT OF BUSINESS TO BE IN CHARGE. THESE "EXECUTIVES" WERE BROUGHT ON SHORTLY AFTER THE PURCHASE. LOOK AT EVERYTHING VERY CLOSELY BEFORE PURCHASING. MOST OF THE BLOUNT MANUFACTURED SCOPES WILL BE GONE SOON. MOVING PRODUCTION TO CHINA OR THE PACIFIC RIM WHILE KEEPING EVERYONE THINKING IT WAS STILL MADE IN JAPAN WAS THESE GUYS SPECIALTY. THIS IS A WHOLE NEW COMPANY WITH MOTIVES THAT ARE SUSPECT. IMO

I EXPECT A LOT OF CHANGES JUST BE CAREFUL GUYS.

I'd heard that something was up with the T-36 pricing, but I'm a lifelong industry outsider. I hope they don't go too far under the $310 I just paid for a new one on Ebay :)

The $308 I paid for the first one didn't kill me, so a bird in the hand...etc. Anyway, if they really lowball them I'll just buy another one. Maybe I'll buy two and knock the average price down so I'll feel better. Now I need some rifles to put them. Anybody know a gunsmith?
