Took Mares Leg on trade couple years ago. Not Henry, was import. I shot it only to make sure it cycled before throwing in trade pile. I thought it clumsy. One of those Taint Guns. It taint’ a pistol nor a rifle, range toy.

Josh Randal would disagree.
But I agree. Range toy, get some comments and wanna seers. Bout really practical, only if it is all you have.
A friend with an ffl in my cas club got paperwork to build one from a rifle into a sbr years ago before you could buy them. He used a ’92 but I don't remember if he used a repro or not. Anyway it was in .45colt, he let us shoot it during the lunch break and if you didn’t have your weak hand holding the barrel down you were going to get smacked in the noggin. Muzzle flip was insane. Im sure with milder loads it would be more controllable. As a trapper it would be very handy but as a mares leg not so much.
Should have been more specific maybe. Ultimately I'd stamp it and stock it. But I'm curious about the ergonomics at the size, ease of loading etc. with the smaller loading tube, and just all around how it feels compared to their rifles.

I'd assume they are built to the same quality and share parts, but I've never even seen one on a shelf.
Sorry I didn’t realize you were referring to a .22. Don’t know anything about Henry. I’ve found that a cut rifle/sg stock is more controllable than a pistol grip style stock on a rifle or shotgun but I doubt that it would be anywhere as accurate as a conventional revolver or a real rifle. I built this cut down 12ga and with light loads it’s very shootable holding it at arms length. Simple test, if you already have your donor rifle remove the buttstock and see how it feels to shoot it. Having to cycle the lever will be interesting.

I have a Henry in 22 magnum, had second thoughts when I purchased it. But now that I got the hang of shooting it with a cheek weld hold very impressed with it. Have no problem hitting a 4 inch steel plate at 25 yards repeatedly with the factory iron sights and my 70 year old eyes. Wish I had one about 40 years ago up in Ohio would of been nice for groundhog control.
It isn't a Mare's Leg, but it was inspired by the Mare's Leg.

It's a Ruger Charger in a cut down 10-22 stock. Because it's a pistol receiver and the stock is too short to fire from the shoulder, it remains a pistol. It's great fun to shoot with a cheek weld on the stubby stock.

I have never owned one or shot one but it seems to me to be neither a good handgun nor a good rifle.

Sorta like an Amphibicar, neither a good car nor a good boat.

But as I said above, I never owned one or shot one so my opinion may be of little value.
Verily, it is. With a rest, I ring the steel silhouette at 100 yards. I'm working on hitting it off hand.

You are CORRECT!!!!!!!..............A useless noisemaker.

Offhand? With one hand or 2.........If 2 might as well us e a rifle.

I don’t have many handguns that I can’t ring 10” steel at 100yds, off hand with irons. After couple tuner shots have a couple dozen 22s that will do the job.

Two hands; and, might as well use a rifle, sure, but the contact points are cheek weld, firing hand, and support hand, so it's a bit of a challenge. At 22 inches, it's more compact and is lighter than a rifle. The challenge is the fun.

Never had the “urge” for one…I have enough problems with a rifle and handgun….
It's like Mark Twain said, nobody is completely useless, if nothing else they can always be pointed out as a bad example.

If you like the way it looks and can afford it as a conversation piece, you could always keep it as a bad example ;)

I looked at a 44 one today. Like it but if I bought it I would have to do paper work and money for a SBL. I would have to put a regular stock on it. Thought about it but decided to just wait for a regular rifle. Unless they do away with the agency and make them legal.
A .22 or a .22 Mag with a 16 inch barrel is plenty handy. Mare Legs look cool but have low practicality.
