is it an easy job to remove the loaded chamber indicator? what is the final product? do you leave a hole where it was or does it just not come up anymore? is it a kitchen table smith job or must you call in the big guns?

Its very easy to remove a LCI. It will leave a slotted hole if you completely remove it or you can just take off the metal tab and leave the plastic lever in place. The lever won't operate without the spring-loaded tab and it'll keep the hole filled to prevent foreign object entry into the breech area. This is a simple procedure that most anyone can accomplish. Field strip the gun and separate the receiver from the grip frame. Under the receiver there's a small semicircular cutout with a metal pin in it. The pin comes out by tapping the receiver downwards on a padded surface or by means of a moderately strong magnet.
