Let's not forget the ones who came home alive but crushed mentally and physically.

One of my high school classmates came back from Vietnam with a chestful of medals and so messed up that he crawled into a bottle and never came out.

I saw him a few years later and he didn't even know me. He died at age 60 after a painful and hopeless life--tried to go to school, tried to drive truck, tried to farm, tried marriage.......nothing worked.

He may not have died in the war.........but it killed him.........VERY slowly.

I already have the Grave marker US Flags for Monday morning early. Including my Older Brothers Grave. 😥

Called USAA to make a change on my auto insurance policy today and at the end of the conversation the representative actually said "Have a happy Memorial Day"... I said "Well, it won't be happy but it will be very thoughtful"....

Sadly many people in our country have no idea why we have "Monday" off. I try to make a point to remind those around me exactly why many of us have "Monday" off.
They will not be forgotten!

My best friend was killed in Beirut, Lebanon on January 8th, 1984. We were the last battalion of Marines sent there as part of the multinational peace keeping force. I will never forget what this holiday is really about. Semper fi.

So many have given so much! Those who went and never came back or came back in a coffin, and the families they left behind. And those severely compromised. We owe them more than they are getting.

Memorial Day has always had a "special" meaning for me. :merica: I was doing some searches and came across the
Wikipedia United States Military Casualties of War statistics. When we pause to reflect this weekend - we need to start in 1775 and remember "everyone" that gave all. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those who lost a loved one defending our country along with those dealing with the repercussions of serving . . . including our law enforcement and first responders.
