Tasco, BSA, Leapers, Norinco, what's the difference? :Flush:

I gave away a Tasco 2.5-10X Mil dot that had been mounted on 1 gun, the POI changed as much as 5 inches at 50 yards with a power change on the zoom. This was at the time tasco went out and all I could find was that no warrenty would be honered......a buddy saw the scope on my bench and said "Hey thats a nice looking scope" .............I siad you want it ??? he said how much, I said a coke the next time we are out and you have a deal....I got the better end of the deal.

Felt the same way about the 4X Leapers. I took it off the SKS it was mounted on and then used the SKS with open sights to shoot the scope! A guy came over and said "is that a scope that you just shot?" Sure was! He then says "you could have given it to me" and of course I replied "Then what was I supposed to shoot at?"

I do have an older Tasco 6X24X44 TS (Japanese built) that works great, it retains its zero, has passed the box test and doesn't loose its POI when you change power. Haven't really tested the China built Tasco TG I have on my 17 HMR ..... kind of doubt it would pass the same test but it does retain its zero and its clear all the way up to 32X (can't say that about the 10X40X50 I looked at.)

Now you guys have me LMAO... I think if I was to give someone one of the nasty scopes I have had that was a piece of aluminum and that was about it, they might shoot at me the next time we meet LOL. I have to admit though, I have not shot at any of them; but only reason I didn't was I wanted to send the scope and itsa nice looking box back to the manufacture with a dollar in the box with the scope. Letter with the scope also, telling them if they find the dollar I enclosed they would now have something and they could throw the rest away.

This actually worked once to my favor and got me the return phone call to visit about my feeling on their product LOL. It just seems to me to go at all the time and effort to build something like a scope, even the cheapest ones look very labor intensive to start up a scope line; I would think you would want to do them like they should be done. At least to the point they have a good POI and track true. Now the recoil proof and the light transmission I can see the corners cut somewhat there to save on expensive.

Just to be clear no I wasn't shooting rounds through the lenses! I hit the edge first shot and it spun around so I was shooting at the side of the thing most of the time.

Well, the more this thread goes on and the more things point to, I now wish I had never ordered the new Simmons scope I got from the guy on the Forsale forum here LOL. I have not had such a good track record with the Simmons brand. I guess now I have a nice 100 dollar scope box coming and a five dollar scope in it.

I guess I could have a new 105 dollar target to shoot at LOL. Yikes
You guys are a bad enfluence LOL. I might as well just try a scope brand at whatever price that I have not had yet. Dang, after this post, thinking about all this; I am going to need a lot of coffee LOL.

Phil, I have a Tasco Custom Shop scope that was a little pricey and is a **** fine scope. Certainly worth the money.

They are fine scopes, have checked a couple out a time or two and didn't spend the dough on them (I know I should have)

I too have the 6X24X44 TS on my 10/22 and feel that the Japanese built Tascos which Microgunners custom shop scope is also one of the Japanese built scopes are very good quality and they do work quite well.

Look guys, Phil is entitled to his opinion and to a degree I'll side with him on that. Tasco made some pretty poor scopes other than the Japanese made Custom shop scopes and the World Class scopes which I feel are very good scopes. BSA in some circles has quite a following, in other circles they don't, but they too have made some budget scopes that are a waste of money and the same applies to Leapers and Norinco. Actually I haven't found a Leapers or Norinco that I've liked.

In the past I've made the point that even in some of the low cost brands there are scopes worth using. But and this is a biggie ..... most budget scopes made by the low cost companies are not that good and won't last. If you buy a low cost scope from a low cost brand (example: Silver Antler Tasco) you more than likely will end up with a scope that will fail you!

Worse scope I've owned was a rather expensive Redfield 5 Star that was a yellow, dim and blurry POS. I once pulled a Leupold of my 03 Springfield and replaced it with a lower cost scope that was new on the market .... A Nikon Monarch which was the best scope I've ever used. I had a buddy tell me what a mistake I made and how removing a gold ring was not wise. After he shot the rifle he had to admit while he was going to stick with his Leupolds the Nikon was a heck of a good scope.

These are completly different animals than the cheap Chineese scopes being brought in now. I have a Tasco Custom Shop scope that looks like a Unertl..well made.

I am trying out a China built Tasco on my 917 (8X32X44TG) and so far its working quite well. But the fact is the workmanship makes it obvious that the scope isn't built to last a lifetime. It just happened to be the only one in my price range with the reticle I wanted with a bunch of magnafication. I figure some day when the money is less of an issue I'll replace it with better, thing is I'll most likely get another for my next 10/22 project .... I hope its works out as well as this one is. But you know me, I seem to have good luck with the stuff most call garbage, but if I had my choice I would be using one of the Japanese built Tascos and not the china built stuff.

I guess thats what a pound of 748 a month for a year will do on a cheap rifle

While Savage 110s are not high grade rifles, I wouldn't call them cheap. Just about any rifle barrel will not hold up to that kind of use .... large amounts of 4064 was the reason I sold my Remington 700 VS!
