Thanks very much, Phil, BobD and Jefferito for the advice - I've added a few more thoughts/questions to the earlier thread. The Kimbers seem lovely, although I've never had the chance to handle one. If I do get one I'll never need to buy another rimfire.

By the way, congratulations on the excellent website. RFC is full of useful information and it's good to have a site exclusively for rimfire fans.

Happy shooting!

Now the bad news...

>>> If I do get one I'll never need to buy another rimfire. <<<

Wrong, Spikey... quite the contrary. You will have the wonderful Kimber. It will be lonely and subliminally tell you to get a wonderful Sako Finnfire, then an Anschutz, then a Cooper..., and on and on.

I felt the same way after my Finnfire Varmint. I now have 2 Kimbers, the HS and 82G, a Krico, M1922's, a Winchester 9422, many trainers, etc.

The problem with a fine expensive .22 or any good gun is you raise the bar. After spending alot once, spending that much again is easier.

The curse of gun collecting. Fortunately, I now look for old Mossbergs, and they are not that expensive.

I still want a Cooper or Remington 40X.

Good luck, you will really like the feel of the Kimber.

700PSS Shooter,
it was nice meeting you at the Richmond showplace awhile back, and good to see you over here!
Hope your friend liked his Sako P72, I found out later it used to be mine ;) , I added the captive brass plug for a trigger stop(didn't wish to alter the steel), now I regret parting with it (sigh).

Spikey,
the man knows what he's talking 'bout, every time I get something, I look in the safe and think to myself(ok, I don't really want anything else, do I?) then I snap to my senses and realize there are far too many beautiful .22s out there!
Just searching for beautifully stocked examples of economy grade rifles can be fun! There is really no pinnacle when looking at guns, each has its own appeal.
Take care,
warren

More than one .22 Rimfire?

Warren

Duly noted, although I won't be able to afford another rifle for a year or two if I buy that Kimber!

I've owned (or own) some wonderful .22s: a Steyr full-stock 'Zephyr', two pre-War Mausers, a BSA Martini Sporter, a Browning pump and a Remington 'Nylon 66'.

Im my opinion the Mauser action is the best and the Kimber is an upgraded pre-War Mauser. Unlike the original, it has a machined trigger-guard, low bolt handle, scope blocks (instead of dovetails), an easily-operated safety catch (no wing), a flush magazine, a forward sling-swivel that is on the wood, not the barrel, the stock is designed for 'scope use and a fuller fore-grip (for those with big hands). I wish it had open sights, though. They can be useful in certain circumstances.

Buying the Kimber makes sense, though. Some will disagree (!!!!), but I'd rather have one (or two) of the best I can afford, than several lesser examples.

All the best

Spikey

Spikey--
I have a couple of Kimbers and I like them a lot--they shoot very well.....and if they don't Kimber will see that they do! I have several rifles and if Kimbers were more readily available in my area I'd probably own a few more. I have bought two of the three I've seen in my gun shop! They are a good deal for the quality you receive--like their 1911 pistols are. I think you'll enjoy it if you decide to buy one.

I don't think that it your sear that is rubbing your cleaning rod. It is your ejector that throws out the spent shells. I bought a delrin
cleaning rod guide and it still rubs. I solved the problem by buying a Dewey 17 cal. cleaning rod and an adaptor to 8/32 threads so I
can use standard 22 cal. brushes and other stuff.
Also if you have a CZ 452 22 you will need one of these rods to clean it with because the CZ's have a tight bore.

bore snake good or not

langenc,
I use a cleaning snake on mine, I don't like using cleaning rods because of the harm to the barrels you can do. They are very handy items to have, and don't take up much room, you can take them anywhere.

I've used a snake and like it but do you think the garbage picked up from the barrel which becomes inbeded in the snake could damage the barrel over time?
