Try come CCI Quiet 22 ammo, that might not offend the neighbors. 
A nice setting to get out and shoot -- and since you are retired, you can shoot during work hours and not disturb the neighbors?
I bet if you tell them you are shooting 22s that will alleviate concerns they might have.
