I'm 66, retired, and have enjoyed shooting since I got my first gun at age 8. There is a nice 100 yard state of GA range about 1 1/2 hours from here that I get to about once a month to shoot my Mosins, black powder cartridge guns, flintlock, and .22s.

I sometimes shoot in the backyard but I don't like to fire too many rounds because of neighbors. I will test fire my heavy stuff and high velocity .22s but try to keep it at less than 10 rounds per backyard session.

A couple of months ago, I saw a plinking steel target on sale locally and decided to try it in the backyard. I had a couple of boxes of Colibri and Super Colibri .22s and used them. Wow, it was so nice to plink without worrying about noise. My son and I put together a crude but fun plinking range incorporating more targets and now I go out 3 or 4 times a week and shoot from 100 to 200 rounds per session.

One thing led to another (I guess I get carried away) and I got a Henry GB after I read reviews of how well it handled Colibri ammo. They work great together. Then I decided I wanted a single shot pistol so I got a Stevens Offhand #35 from an online auction. It is great with standard Colibri ammo since it is a little loud with the Supers. I also shoot with my Remington 521T and my Hoban #45. The Supers also work great with my Nylon 66 but, due to lack or recoil, I have to cycle it manually.

I have tried the various CCI ammo but it is noticeably louder. The Colibri ammo is reasonable enough but I have to buy it online. It helps to get dealer pricing which I can do with my C&R FFL.

My son looks forward to getting down once a week and it has been great when we have company. And the backyard range has lead me to this forum which is almost as much fun as shooting.

Well welcome sir and that is a really nice looking backyard range:bthumb:
Try come CCI Quiet 22 ammo, that might not offend the neighbors. :)

A nice setting to get out and shoot -- and since you are retired, you can shoot during work hours and not disturb the neighbors?

I bet if you tell them you are shooting 22s that will alleviate concerns they might have.
legal?

is it legal to discharge a firearm where your at?if it is not much anyone can say. am lucky live in open shooting area. now my neighbor doesnt like it but i am retired as well,so shoot on weekdays during work hours. wanted to shoot today, but neighbor had grandkids over,i could see them playing in their backyard. my 75 and 100 yd stations are about 50 yds from their backyard, so i deferred. they are good people.
Thanks for the comments.

I shoot on weekdays while people are at work when I shoot alone but my son and visitors end up here when everyone is home.

I've tried the CCI quiet but the Colibris are a good bit quieter, especially in pistols.

It is legal to shoot but it still helps to be a good neighbor, and it is easier now that I have my quiet range set up. I was a bit louder with my shooting in the past!
A good argument for suppressor-friendly laws.
nwellons, What a wondereful backyard range!
I also have to be considerate with the neighbors and usually limit my shooting to when they are not out and about.
I actually live in the city limits but in an agriculturally zoned area with homes > 100 yds from my fence line left and right. I took a chance and talked to the Police chief about my situation (can I shoot in the city limits considering where I live?) and he said it was fine. Right then and there, he had his secretary whip out a letter on city stationary and signed it, giving me authorization to shoot at my house and acreage.
What he gives I'm sure he can take away. For that reason, I try to be considerate with the neighbors and my shooting habits.
Anyway, great backyard range. You've given me some ideas just by looking at what you've done.
