Is Receiver "Barrel Hole(?)" Supposed to Be Out-of-Round?

Hello,

I just received my Kidd Supergrade barreled action--super excited--but one part concerns me: the hole in the receiver to which the barrel mates is significantly eccentric. I am struggling with Google and forum search, because I do not know what the hole is called. I also could not find posts about holes being out-of-round.

Is this normal? If so, is there a reason it is designed this way? If it works, great, but I would still be curious to learn why. This is my first time seeing a receiver sans trigger assembly, so I am hoping this is completely normal. For what it's worth, I didn't see this on my CZ 457 or Rossi RB22M.

Here are a few pictures. Sorry for the poor quality; they were taken hurriedly on my phone at the FFL.

Thanks!

Now you have me curious. It doesn't look right, I can't say for sure but I'll have to look at my Kidd tomorrow.
I would have to say no that's not right. Contact Kid.

Thanks for the replies. At least I know I’m not just being picky. I sent Kidd a message, but I figured it couldn’t hurt posting the question here as well. I will update once I hear back from Kidd.

I found this ancient Tony Kidd video about the classic/slip-fit. At 5:55 he says heating the receiver to fit the barrel may result in an “oblong” expansion of that “receiver bore hole.”
.
Is it that way all the way thru? Can you see light? Is the barrel wobbly ? Straight/ Square?
Imho, Does not look symmetrical enough to be part of the CNC milling process.
At best its just an internal cosmetic flaw. Not something Id expect , or accept ,without a HUGE discount .
At worst it’s defective. and dangerous.
CALL KIDD, they should make this right.

@Toomany22s, all good questions. I did not see any light shining through from either end. I wish I had checked for squareness and barrel wobble, but it didn’t occur to me at the time. From what I remember, the barrel felt snug, but I didn’t tug it enough to say for certain.

True about the slip fit in that video, but I’m hanging onto a sliver of hope that the asymmetric expansion on that hole would also apply for the Supergrade. I won’t speculate further until I hear from Kidd.
I didn’t watch the video, but I would assume the asymmetrical expansion during heating would return to a symmetric hole once cooled. Curious to hear what Kidd says….
Well, if you ever need to change out a barrel....shouldn't be that hard.

This just proves what I was discussing here the other day when someone was upset that their Bergara didn't shoot as well as expected. Show me the company that makes perfect rifles, every time. EVERY TIME....and Maybe, this is perfectly normal, I guess we'll see.
Good catch and I quickly noticed the same thing when I got my SG. It is designed that way and I am not sure of all the details why but it returns very close to zero using the two screws if you remove the barrel then reinstall. While not the same as the tight slip fit, it is still described by Tony as the most accurate configuration of what he sells using the 20" heavy match barrel.

Thank you for confirming, @jazzsax8. I can stop stressing now… I am still curious to hear from Kidd about the reason for this apparent design intent, but as long as it shoots well I’m happy.
Looking forward to the Kidd reply to get a better understanding of why. I did call them to discuss it though is how I got my info back when and do not remember any specifics.

I see what your saying..but I thought that was the new slip fit Super Grade
if you watch that vid closely, you can see the barrel hole isn't perfectly round, when at 40 seconds in Tony shows the end if the receiver to the camera

Woah, you’re right. I didn’t notice it at first without the round barrel tenon installed for contrast. You and jazzsax8 have convinced me. Good eye catching that.
