I would buy a SpeedMaster, I think those 597's are the pits.
Me and my friends shoot on the weekends and I shoot either a Anschtuz or a Volquartsen, My other friends shoot Ruger 10/22's,
with the exception of one friend who has a 597 and it gives trouble every week one way or the other. He also has a Speed Master and it has never even began to give trouble. Whats up with the 597's

Me too!

I had both the .22lr and the .22wmr and sold them because they pissed me off. I know my way around a gun and a crap design sticks out when they are used even a little bit. The Remmies I have are the ADL and the BDL. Those are good little guns.

To quote one of my favorite movie lines - "One word - plastics!"

Same problem with a lot of newer gun designs. Poor materials, poor workmanship, poor attention to details. Cutting corners to cheapen production costs means less reliability, accuracy and quality. It seems gun design is controlled by the bean-counters these days, instead of the craftsmen. :(
I totally agree with that, thats why i own a bunch of military rifles (mosin nagants, enfields, mausers etc) some were made in war time and show worse fit and finish, but all of them still show that "old world" workmanship, overengeneering, elegance and quality, that you dont see on many of today's rifles (unless you pay over 1k) mill surps are cheaper too:D oh yeah and none dont have a single peice of plastic or rubber on it, only metal and wood:t
