I am in the process of polishing my target 10/22. I can get everything out and apart except the **** safety. I was able to get it to roll/spin so I could slide it more, but I couldn't get it out. I have seen from pictures that it is possible to get out, and thus I would assume possible to put back. Any help would be appreciated. :) I looked in the takedown sticky but it hasn't gotten to that point yet.

It's a little tricky. You should be able to see the plunger under the safety rod. You need to turn the safety until there is a section of full diameter over the plunger. In other words, where the plunger is not over the notch. Then you can pop it out. Make any sense?

umm, no.

I was able to spin it over so the bottom was the top and the top was the bottom, at this point I could get the safety to slide further than typical but not all the way out. Are you suggesting I turn it like 1/2 way? then pop it out?

thanks again.

As an aside, do yourself a huge favor and be sure to be trying what your doing with the entire trigger group inside a clear plastic bag with the bag closed. I cinch the bag closed around my wrist so my one hand is inside the bag with the trigger group. When the detent holding the safety lets loose the first time, you'll thank that bag for catching it. It really fires out of there when your not sure how it holds the safety in place.

I took my safety out and it flied out like a 22lr. the only thing I had to go by to find it is sound. I had to remember what kind of material it kind of hit and search for it. I was lucky I found something "similar" within 7 minutes. I really not sure if I did install the right spring in. I do know the one I installed does work, but can't confirm if that is the spring from safety.

Thanks for the advice, I hate searching for springs. As I said before I was able to turn it so I could see both the bottom notches and the top notches (a 90 degree rotation) but it seemed stiff, is this normal or should it just pop out easily? thanks

Could have been a valve spring from that engine overhaul  :D
