could it be like one of the commercially available parts that is just a plastic ring where the elongated slot in the middle slips down over the magazine and makes it easier to hold the button down while the ammo is inserted?

Here is an example:

I know you are asking about a homemade gadget, but this thing is worth its weight in gold. No more sore fingers; well maybe from forking out $$$ for more .22 ammunition!! Makes loading a Ruger mag a joy.

Good luck!!!
yeah chuck im gonna have to have one of those..i need to buy up some more mags first...then comes that piece of art!

Place the cap over the mag button to hold the button down as you load the mag. Will save wear & tear on your thumb.

Or you can make something like this out of plexy glass or wood, etc. easy to hold down with one hand while you load with the other.

Woodknack, what a clever tool you made. Nice work!
I can't take credit for making it. It was in a gun deal I did.
The HKS model is for the Mark I and II but can be modded to use on the Mark III.

Just take a small file or emery board and square the one corner so the notch on the mag(mag safety, I believe) will slide thru the plastic reloading device. Go slow and stop when the mag will slide in.

Though after I drew up the dimensions I decided to draw it up on Tinkercad and then print it off on my 3d printer. I printed it on the lowest resolution just to see how it came out. I could make it print much nicer but it would take longer to print. This took about 15 minutes to print. Functions fine. Just not to pretty. LOL

Back side. Though you can use it either side.

Here it is ready to drop 10 round in the mag!

woodknack..thanks buddy....ill try and make me one soon
Out at the club today with my AMT Lightning, 1978 MkI, Buckmark and new S&W Victory, a 9mm casing slipped over the magazine button worked very well on every one of them.;) A .32 ACP or S&W Long case would maybe be a little better but couldn't work much better.
Im a homemade kinda guy too but I really like the handiness and contour of this little sucker

Plenty of choices, never knew they existed, but then I have not used a magazine for a .22 for years, I had a Ruger Mark I, I bought in about 1971 and sadly sold a couple years ago. I bought a Mark III a few days ago, now that I am retired and have time. But still looking for a place to shoot casually.

Hands down, this thing is the bomb!!!
I bought one, used it, then bought a second because I don't ever, ever want to be without it. With the cost of the pistol, and the cost of ammo, 23 bucks is nothing.
