Does anyone know the weight of a 16.5" GM fluted SS barrel? I'm trying to determine exactly how much weight I would save if I switched to one instead of my unfluted Boyds barrel. Anyone know the difference?

FWIW, here is what I have on 10/22 barrel weights:

Green Mountain Heavy, 20" :____~ 3 pounds
Green Mountain Fluted, 20" :____~ 2 pounds 8oz.
Green Mountain Heavy, 18" :____~ 2 pounds 6 oz.
Green Mountain Heavy, 16 ½" :__~ 2 pounds 4 oz.
"WMBS" 22" Sporter*:__________~ 2 pounds 3 oz.
[also the "Wal*Mart" 'Special' 22" barrel]
"Ruger" Factory Sporter, 18 ½" :___1 pound 14 oz.
"Clark" Sporter__________________1 pound 14 oz.
"GM" & "WMBS" weights from Ken Clark at "WMBS".

From the above data, I would 'guess' the 16 ½" SS Fluted would weigh ~ 2 pounds 1 oz..

Thanks BigMike - you sure are a wealth of information! It doesn't seem like a lot of difference...only about 3-4 oz?

Not sure it's worth swapping the barrel out for that.

Don't do it...

for the weight reduction, my friend. Do it if you think it looks cool. Otherwise you're wasting money fluting a .22 rimfire barrel.
