Flashlight on Henry

1047 Views 16 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  upnorth35
I use my Henry H001 pretty exclisively for shooting rats at night. My wife raises Peacocks and Emus. Between feed for them and piles of firewood everywhere we have our fair share of rats. I would really like to mount a flashlight on my rifle somehow. Wondering if anyone has any fantastic ideas. I have seen the AR style front handguards but my son rides me pretty hard when i put a scope on it from time to time. I feel he would despise the idea of a tacticool lever gun. He is 4 but has a good idea of what a cowboy gun should look like. I would love a short picatinny rail that mounts on the magazine tube like the sling mount. Thanks!

This mounts a section of picatinny rail to your sling stud mount. Then you can use a pic mounted flashlight to take care of vermin, remove for a cowboy gun.

And you seriously take crap from a 4 year old?

It should work as long as you already have a sling stud on your Henry.

That i do, thats what got me thinking if there was a pic rail that mounted the same way. Now that you pointed that one out, i feel kind of dumb not thinking about that. Thank you very much.

No problem, glad I could help. There are several adapters available if you search, I'm not partial to any particular product, I'm not using any at the moment, but I don't have to answer to any young 'uns.
Merry Christmas.

If I needed to add a flashlight to a leveraction for night use I'd look into doing it a couple different ways. Since it'll be a petite 22lr I'd opt for a small/skinny aaa Maglite or smaller. It will rest securely in the V of the magazine tube and barrel on either side. To attach it I'd use a couple short pieces of elastic stretch chord and cheap chord locks or industrial velcro. I understand all the nice add on accessory clamps and rails and such but in my experience they do two things. First is add bulkiness. Second add weight. And then cost is also usually up there too. I guess it boils down to if you want it to function and be lightweight, cheap and look meh! or if you want it to still function, be tactical, look cool, be name brand, cost more etc etc. Lol

I have ben using my streamlight pen light in my hand. I havent considered just fashioning that onto the barrel. Thats a pretty solid idea. Got to like the cost associated with that for sure. I wonder if they make a pressure switch addition for it! Not necessary but might be nice. Ill have to check out how the light transfers it tied onto barrel/mag tube. Thanks for idea!

What do you think of this?

Get your son to carry the flashlight, or get him one of those battery cars and put a spotlight on it for him to spot for you. Father and son out for a nighttime hunt. Later you could mount a gun on it and he could go hunting with you

Invest in one that can accept a pressure switch mounted on the forearm. Will make it a lot easier to use. Next step up would be a night vision scope. Sounds like it will be a permanent thing given your valuable livestock.

You might be able to find a pressure switch that's compatible with your light. I'm not up on all the lights, lazers and switches but it would be a cool bonus for sure. I've always carried out my night time missions (chicken coop) with a small light in one hand and handgun in the other. If I used a shotgun or rifle I think the light being attached to it would be better or maybe a little more convenient.

For rats/birds at night, I have used one of the Crosman M4-177 air guns. The pic rail section under the front sight is perfect for mounting a flashlight.

I am not sure on the etiquette of firing up an older thread, but... thanks to everyone who through out ideas for my light mount on the henry. My wife ended up getting me a garden gun for Christmas. So i decided to go with a Ranger Point Precision handguard and a Cyclops light. Now the boy can see the H001 in stock form and i can have a rat rifle. It took me a while to acumulate the parts, but it was worth the wait. I just got in from trying it out. Slayed 4 rats right out the gate. Previous attempts with a white lite, i would be lucky to get one. Should have got this setup much sooner.
