extractor spring help ??

468 Views 13 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  RICOCHET
yea all,

am putting in my new claw extractor from dakotan, and the supplied spring is about 4 coils longer and looks a tad larger in diameter than what was on the bolt. which should i use ?? would it make a diff in extractions ?? last time i fired the EABco kit had three FTEs' out of 100 rds. not too bad i guess.

BTW, randy tricked out a brand new factory bolt, so i assume the spring also is a factory spring.

so, longer, or shorter ?? thanks all.

FWIW, I've never used the VQ Extractor spring in any of my 10/22s. As you said they seem to be too large in diameter and haven't been a good fit in any of the bolts I've tried to install them in.
Give the factory spring a try if you're so inclined; it's always worked great for me! :t

Take Care! - Dakotan
I just put in a power custom extractor.

The spring was a little longer than the stock spring, but it went in just fine. I just used a small allen wrench to compress the spring while I put the extractor in and all is well.
yea, they both fit. was just wondering if the longer spring would be better to give the
extractor more tension, ummm, springier. dont know how to word this correctly. lol.

The stock spring tends to be a little light. Plenty of post here from people with aftermarket barrels and tighter chambers who have extraction problems.
Spring II

I changed my extractor today. The spring that came in the package from VQ was SHORTER than the stock 1976 spring!! Vq spring was stronger however.

Been getting some stovepipes (alot...2 per mag) lately. I keep my guns pretty darn clean but it was DIRTY down in that hole. Wonder what would have happened if I had just cleaned it out? I'll never know cause it's clean now and it's got the good extractor. Find out soon if it's fixed. I do know the new extractor hold a shell hard against the bolt face and the old one did not. I guess 75,000 or so rounds takes a toll, huh? :D :t
VINCE, yea, the vq spring altho' shorter is a tad larger in diameter and may compensate for being shorter. left the vq in and hope it works well. cant try it out, ha,ha it's snowing right now. oh well, the farmers need it.

thanks again.

Saw that it was snowing on you. 89-90* here today. Too darn hot for this time of year. Should be 75. Everything is all screwed up. Supposed to be mid 70's next week. I'm going shooting :D :t

Ricochet, I'm in central Montana and was out shooting in that snow because there was no wind. About a couple hundred times even.:) It's back to blowing today. Get much wind over there?

We just went from winter to summer......NO SPRING....well ok, we got 4-5 days of spring. Was running heater two weeks ago and am running airconditoner last two days  :( Supposed to cool off after Saturday. Like I said, I'm going shooting. :t :p Lotsa stuff to test.

right now it is gusting out of canada, about 85 miles away. had coupla inches of snow yesterday. hope to shoot on sat, sun. like vince said, got a lot of stuff to test.
cabin fever is gettin' to me. wanna shoot sumpin!! lol.

Got some very good friends in Oahu. They come out to visit from time to time. The dark roads for endless miles makes them nervous. They have been in Hawaii for many generations. They love to shoot. We have many recipes they have left, and love them. Kalua pig is one of my favorites.

Good luck on your shooting this weekend.

BTW I have two extractors that will be in Tuesday, the VQ, I will let you know what I think of them.
