Early model Ruger

Hello to all,

I've just bought a used Ruger with a serial number that dates back to the early-mid 70's. I wanna toss the barrel and stock to build-up another race looking rifle. My question is anything I need to know about these? My last one goes back to the 80's so I know it's fairly recent.

They are all basically the same. Do whatever you want to it.

sf,
Thanks for the info. I can now relax.

If it has an original stock it's shape and wood might make it a premium item if you find someone that wants it. It seems like the original model had a funny shaped foreend that is not longer available.

bass_singer,

I was going to use the stock for a project but I found out that I can use a synthetic version instead. Besides it's butstock area has a chip in it and would need refinishing if it were going to be used. All that matters to me is that it's mechanically sound and no special parts are needed for future repairs.

Well,if'n your just gonna "toss" that stock,

How's about tossin' it my way? :D

My next project will involve removing quite a bit of wood to slim it all down,so a few chips ain't gonna hurt nothin'.

Bobby,

Later on if/when my projects finally finished I MIGHT DECIDE to unload it to anyone who might want it. Current condition seems pretty good except for a nice large chip near the butstock. Let me do my thing and I'll let everyone know later-on.

I have one from around 1969...ll the new parts fit perfectly...the clark barrel fit snug in the receiver and all the new rigger group pieces dropped right in. I bought a new bolt from Ruger and shipped it off to Randy and CPC...works like a champ...I did note that when I moved the parts to a newer receiver (to return the older gun back to original condition since it has a semi fancy grade walnut stock) that be barrel was decidely loose in the receiver.

Winchester52D,

Thanks for your posting. I decided to buy a Hogue synthetic for my project and hope to get the money for a barrel by the end of the year. Right now I just wanna see clean it up and get some caps busted! The barrel I've decided to try is the GM Muzzle Weighted version for hunting purposes. I don't hunt. Just shoot from the bench.
