Not unusual. The rifle may have remained at the factory until a distributor placed an order, then it sat in a distributor's warehouse until a dealer placed an order. The dealer most likely had it in his stock for a time. If you purchased the rifle from Wal-Mart, it could have sat in one of their distribution centers for some time.
It's still a new rifle. Unlike an automobile, condition will mean more than year of manufacture should you ever sell it. Shoot it and enjoy :t :t
