I think DIP sells an adapter to convert it to 1/2X28

Just get an adapter and put on it. That will be cheaper than threading your American.

That is ture, but I just bought a 16" threaded CZ. I was going to sell it and have my American threaded. Gemtech will do it for $150. The adapter costs $45. so that only leaves $100. I'd still have $250 or so to spend on other stuff I don't need.

CZ likely sells a dozen threaded barreled rifles elsewhere to everyone sold in the US, thus the European standard vs the US standard threading. A adapter is inexpensive and effective. Simple economics.

If you look around, you might be able to get it done cheaper.

My FFL cut and threaded mine last year for $75.

CZ is a European company and therefore uses European standards for threads.

The market over there (as mentioned) is far greater, because in a lot of places, suppressors are a lot easier to obtain. I believe in England the only requirement is that you are over 18 and that they're treated as the piece of PPE that they are. They see a lot of use on airguns over there as well.

A fun fact for you is that $20 .22" airgun suppressors apparently work very well with subsonics, though obviously cheap suppressors aren't big in the US with the $200 surcharge you guys get charged.

Mind you, here in Oz we can't have them at all -sniff-

Gemtech is the most expensive place to have this work done. They had told me $185 per barrel to have Quad barrels done, and they are out of the action. If you are going to sell one American, why don't you sell the unthreaded one? Then you have the proceeds from that one minus $45 for the adapter. Also, it sounds like you have the 22" version which is getting hard to find, so why ruin it? Someone would like to have it as is. FWIW-the adapter works fine with my suppressor.

I ordered the adapter today from DIP. I decided to trade my CZ 452 American .22lr for a CZ 452 Varmint .22lr. Then I'm going to have my 452 HM2 American cut and threaded.

I have the Tactical Innovations adapter on mine, works great. Much cheaper than a cut and thread job.

I bought an adapter for the 16" .22lr. Now I want to have my American HM2 cut to 16" and threaded.

Another Option..

There may be another option with the "16 inch" 1/2 x 20 threaded CZ barrels.

If you measure the actual length of the barrels on your "16 inch" threaded CZs by taking the distance from the closed bolt face out to the end of the barrel, the measurement is closer to 17 1/2 inches.

I have taken this measurement with a small diameter wood dowel placed down the bore of the "16 inch" threaded barrels of both my CZ 22LR (a 452 American) and CZ 17HMR (a 452 Silhouette model), and the total length of these "16 inch" barrels is more like 17 1/2 inches. With this 17 1/2 inch barrel length, there is plenty of room to cut the barrel back past the 1/2 x 20 threads and cut new 1/2 x 28 threads on the remaining barrel end. The length of the barrel would still over 16 inches.

Anyone get the same measurement on their "16 inch" threaded CZs?

It would be easier and a little cheaper. But why not fix it right? Cheaper isn't always better. For me, adapters are a temporary fix, but that's just me.
