CZ Magazine Choices for 457

Just bought my first CZ! :D It's a 457 Varmint MTR and I need some extra magazines for it. I'd been looking for an MTR for a while with no luck, so I just recently bought a Bergara B-14 R Trainer to shoot our club matches. Of course I haven't even paid off the credit card statement for the Bergara when the MTR became available. Now I'll be running them against each other and have to make a decision about which to compete with. Should be fun!

My questions are should I buy polymer or steel mags, and also, do both the 5 rd and 10 rd mags feed equally reliably? I did a search and read quite a few posts but didn't find a clear answer. It seems like some prefer the poly mags because they are lighter and insert more easily, while others like the steel mostly because it is steel and feels better to them. Also, I assume that both the 5 and 10 rd mags feed reliably. Is that a good assumption? After all it's hardly like stuffing that last round in a 30 rd AR mag and having trouble with some of my mags feeding.

Appreciate all comments including best mag sources. I've learned a lot hanging around here already (but it has been a little hard on my wallet)!

I’ve never used the 5 shot mags, but both the polymer and the steel 10 shot mags, have worked flawlessly

The 5's and 10's worked equally well no matter the size or material for me. RIght now, the 10 round mags are tough to find atm. If you plan to do competitive shooting, you might want to accumulate the 10's.

The magazine well on the 457's are plastic, perhaps polymags would be your preferred choice. However, I haven't worn out a magazine well yet.

I prefer the poly 5 rounders. But iv had the steel and the 10 rounders, they al work fine. I think they make a 25 round magazine for the 512 that will fit The 455/457.
I have 3-457’s and 1-455 and have both steel and plastic mags both 5 round and 10 round and they all work flawlessly in 4 different rifles.
I'm in Canada and I couldn't find any 10s at any online dealers but a LGS nearby had 4x 5s, now they're mine. Makes 7x plastic and 1-metal. I like the plastic 'cause there are No Sharp Edges !!
Thx for your comments. As FLZ stated, 10 rd mags seem largely non-existent. That said, I did find both metal and poly 5 and 10 rd mags at CZ-Parts. While I'm not crazy about their prices (plus my guess is I'll get tagged with a Foreign Exchange Fee), I went ahead and placed an order. Since they accept MC/VISA, I'm not risking a whole lot and I need to get my rifle up and running.

Will advise how this works out....
I see dozens of magazines on Gunbroker. They average 25 dollars.
I have a mtr and I prefer the poly in a single shot but then again I am benchrest shooting
Both of my Varmint MTR's came with the 5 round steel and they're ok but I do prefer the 10 round poly when br shooting. I bought several of them last year when CZ ran them for $19.99 each. I prefer the 5 round polymer in my 457 American Synthetic while squirrel hunting because there is less chance for the mag to hang up in any thick underbrush when walking in the woods.
I have two 5 rounders, one steel and one poly. Both have worked perfect since day one.
My V-MTR also came with the Steel (above) 5-rnd mag. And my 455-SS Lux with a 5-rnd Poly. As I said, I prefer the poly in both sizes, I have 2x poly 10s, 5x poly 5s, 1x steel 5.
I just picked up 4 of the 5 round poly. For hunting I prefer a mag that doesn't project. The steel weren't available and the gun comes with 2 10 round mags. I'll pick up steel 5's when I find them. Just because. I've found me difference! In any type I've tried.
I vote the 5 round poly mags. Light and work flawless for me and don't rust. What isn't to like about that.

I have had better luck with poly mags, never had a problem with them.

Gotta admit, I never even checked GB. Nothing against dealers on GB... just not my go to source of supply I guess...
Glad to see all the positive responses on the poly mags, as that's what I have coming my way.

Quick update on my order thru CZ-Parts...

- Order confirmation from CZ-Parts 03/16/23 6:18 PM EDT
- Shipping confirmation from CZ-Parts 03/17/23 1:17 AM EDT
- Shipping confirmation from UPS 03/17/23 2:10 AM EDT
- Scheduled delivery from UPS is Monday 03/20/23

While I've seen UPS miss 'scheduled delivery' dates before, if they actually deliver on Monday... they will have gotten me my package in about the same time as some US based suppliers I deal with... and faster than probably most.

I'm liking it! :)

Polys for me. Ten is my preference, but I have some 5s, too.

That is not the real CZ-USA site. On the real site, the 10 round mags are out of stock and are $35.

I hope you get your order.
I am considering a single shot mag for use with 22 short. Anyone have any experience with this?
