I'm hoping somebody can give me some suggestions to fix a new problem that has started happening with my Buck Mark Bullseye pistol. After firing, the magazine sometimes drops out. I'm sure that my finger is not hitting the mag release button because of how I place my finger on the trigger, so it must be something mechanical. I also have been double checking to make sure the magazine is all of the way in and seated before I start shooting. It happens almost randomly, and happens with all three of my magazines. Tonight while shooting at my local bullseye league, the magazine dropped out four times. Fortunately for me, three of those times was after firing the last shot in the string, and the one time it happened in the middle of the string it was during the slow fire stage, giving me plenty of time to reinsert the magazine and reload. Two weeks ago it happened during a rapid fire stage and cost me what would have been my highest aggregate ever. Talk about frustrating. Anyway, any advice would be appreciated. I'm not even sure where to start with fixing this.

Thanks

Jerry:

Thanks for the advice. I checked to see if the magazine was locking in place and it did lock into place. I don't think that the spring is weak as this pistol is only about one year old, and it requires firm pressure to depress the magazine release button with no play in the button at all. While I had the grips off and the spring out, examining the funtioning as you suggested, I noticed some fouling on the magazine latch. In fact, when I went to clean it a small chunk of black stuff fell off the latch. I cleaned the latch and put everything back together. I also lubricated my magazines. On Sunday I took the pistol to the range and shot through all of my magazines a couple of times and no problems. I'll be shooting again tomorrow night. If I don't have a problem then, I'll call this one fixed. Thanks again.

Update

Wednesday night's shooting didn't go so well. The first few strings were fine, but then the magazines started dropping out again; probably 4 or 5 times. Oh well, back to the drawing board. Maybe it's time to pull out my Brownell's catalog and order a replacement latch and spring.
