Hey-

I have 2 project guns on my bench, an 80 & 81. Neither of the bolts will close all the way for the same reason: the ejector and extractor won't align correctly. They are both hitting the breech face BELOW their slots in the barrel.
The e & e look OK, a little worn, not damaged nor misshaped. There seems no way to adjust the height on either one. I am hesitant to file down without knowing where to stop...

Any chance the barrel has somehow rotated in the reciever a bit?

Probably not related to your issues as described but...

Have you been working on the trigger? My 773 bolt would not close until I got the trigger spring trimmed correctly.

Does the bolt have to be cocked first before inserting so all the rails index properly?

You sure you have the correct bolts for those guns?
Asking cause I got a late 40’s-early 50’s 80DL project that had a trigger that wouldn’t reset, turns out it had the wrong version striker assembly. It fit, but took some research to figure out it was wrong. Most 80 series parts have two to four different variants. And I’ve seen a few that have the wrong bolt assembly.

Was just going to ask the same thing . Ive got both , a mag feed and a tube feed , the bolts are not interchangeable.

Could not get back to the guns until yesterday.
Made a list of your suggestions and went down it.
Turns out gcrank1 and Wanderson were correct-- I switched bolts. So don't have to do anything in the way of bolt repair (never done that, yet).

Decided I better get a better system to organize all the bits and pieces...
