I shoot quite a bit from the prone position and as much as I enjoy my 54.18, I do not enjoy having to use a make shift rest when firing it prone. I realize I can just drill the stock and add a sling stud to attach a Harris Bipod or even a rail to use an Atlas Bipod, but I hate the thoughts of drilling the pristine stock.

Is there another option I'm not thinking about, or am I just over thinking it and need to drill the stock?

I have a 54.18 MSR with studs front and rear. Mine has a McMillan Anschutz Silhouette stock, so not the same aesthetic issue. But, drilling stud holes is a relatively benign insult, and they can add a lot of utility. I use a Harris bipod on mine, and it works great. I occasionally hunt with it, thus the rear stud for a sling. If the front stud location is your only need, then obviously a rail system would work too, but much more complex and costly to install.

The 54.18 has a silhouette stock that is stippled with no rail. I don't really like the idea of drilling the wood, but I've just fixed that problem I believe.

I came across a McMillan that's going on it. I picked the stock up some time ago and learned that the action screws for the wood stock weren't long enough for the McMillan, so I put it aside and figured I'd get screws at some point. I forgot about it until today.

Any idea where I could get a longer forward action screw? The rear one is long enough, but the front one is flush with the inside of the stock, so it doesn't reach the threads in the action at all...
