Actually IMHO a 22lr is one of the perfect survival guns. You are far more likley to find ammo in case society goes down the tubes (LIke a Mad max movie) than anything else. You can kill just about anything with it..its just a lousy personal defence weapon...
Actually , I'd argue that a .22lr wouldn't even be a bad PD weapon IF (!) you were in a lawless / a la Mad MAx society. ( And were a decient shooter) In a situation like that, a flurry of well aimed head shots would be very effective at stopping anybody. You just wouldn't want to be explaining your choice of point of aim to a Jury /prosicutor after the fact.

Now in 1980 I went thru the major split, I had to sell house, pay all outstanding bills and had to suffer the ignoble stigma of celibacy. Two of my favorites were a 41 with all accesssories and a 52. I sold them to a gun club member. I never replaced them.I still mourn them from time to time.

I'm in a different place at a different time and satisfy myself with less expensive pleasures.

To all of you with 41s hang on to one of the finest target pistols ever built.

The header asked " the best 22 revolver "? The Freedom arms of course but the Colt Officers Model Match and the Colt Diamondback are both superbly accurate and rugged. I had them both and I'm not sure the Freedom Arms would best the Officers I had, it shot one hole at 25 yds. It's one of those that makes you wonder why you sold it.

The in the body the question was " favorite 22 revolver "? The nice old K22's are hard to resist and I have a lot of fun with my 617, just wish it shot better. I'm also a fan of the H&R break tops, just plain fun to shoot and shuck those empty's.

I like the J frame Smith and Wessons. The M34 and and M63 "Kitguns." Handy size for me and great triggers, especially in single action. 4" M34s are still relatively affordable and plentiful on Auctionarms, Gunbroker, and Gunsamerica.

Its funny or strange that these guns do not have a higher resale value ? they are basicly a 22 Python without the rib. They have a better action than a Diamondback and rarely do you see one for over $350 ??? I would buy a Diamondback to finish out my Colt 22 Collection in a heartbeat for that price ....but they are always over $500...usually well over !!!!!!

You are correct, the OMT or OMM is a better gun in almost every respect to the Diamondback, but sells for less. Its hard to spend the $ for the Diamondback when you know the OM is a better value. The Diamonbacks look so good that if someone didn't know better they would think it was Colt's top of the line 22lr revolver.

You mean like one of these? This one's called Trooper but it's basically the same thing.

Good enough for the last 23 years...

My old, worn, Model 63, four inch...No telling how many thousands of rounds, three sons use, never a glitch of any kind...Pachmayer grips and Bianchi 10L holster that have been together since day one. The small J frame grips are way too small ....

Trooper

Snake,
Is that Trooper a Mk I? It is a dead ringer for my Officer's Model Match. Whereas my Trooper Mk III has a half lug and with a rebounding firing pin. The OMM has a direct strike firing pin. By the way, the Mk III is a real joy to shoot because of the soft trigger. You guys have got to quit posting all those beautiful pictures. I can't go in but one direction at a time. So much to acquire and so little time (or $$$).

It's not called Mk I, just Trooper. It's on same frame as Python and your OMM--a heavy, beautiful beasite.

I have owned about every colt rimfire revolver made with a few exceptions.

The colts have always been wonderfully accurate and always seemed to require more lavish care than any other makes. Mine always seemed to go out of time faster than any S&W or Ruger.

Handsome pieces, terrible grips I don't miss any of them. the only colts I love
are the 1911 and the 1st or 2nd generation Single actions.

Well, a month ago I would've said my 5.5" NM Single Six, but having purchased a mint Old Model S6 6.5"er from GB, it has taken over top spot. Those OM Rugers are sweet! Now I'm looking for a 9.5" OM!!! Wish I had a K-22 to compare with.....

Except for the fact that Rugers last several lifetimes and Yugos last months. It's all about value and your analogy is a poor one. Try to find somebody willing to build a custom creation on a Diamondback or a Ferrari. Ruger has operated in the black since day one, so they must be doing something right. Cannot in any way say the same for poor old Colt.

Don't take this the wrong way, I'm not badmouthing Colt or their guns as a disguised excuse that I can't afford one, I own several. If we're gonna compare apples to apples, let's compare the Single Six to the Colt Frontier Scout. Not what's become an $800 collector piece.
