I would agree not so much becasue of durability. ( It's pretty hard to break a S&W .22 revolver too.). The Ruger Sp 101 is 100% easier to totally disasemble . All it requires is removal of the grip panel and the use of a short pin stored there. ( A paper clip or straghtened fish hook could work too.) No other tools or special operations required. This could be a big help if the gun ever got foulded with mud, muck ice etc. It only takes seconds to drop the internal works into your hand where they are easily cleaned. Heck, you could put teh whole disasembled gun into a sock and rince it in a streem! Very slick design on Mr. Rugers part on this one. ( Kind of makes up for the MK II disasembly disasterThe revolver I'd choose if I were stuck in the middle of nowhere would be my 4" Ruger SP-101 in .22 LR.
Actually , I'd argue that a .22lr wouldn't even be a bad PD weapon IF (!) you were in a lawless / a la Mad MAx society. ( And were a decient shooter) In a situation like that, a flurry of well aimed head shots would be very effective at stopping anybody. You just wouldn't want to be explaining your choice of point of aim to a Jury /prosicutor after the fact.Actually IMHO a 22lr is one of the perfect survival guns. You are far more likley to find ammo in case society goes down the tubes (LIke a Mad max movie) than anything else. You can kill just about anything with it..its just a lousy personal defence weapon...
