Guys,

Which is the best bolt buffer for the $$ I have the VQ hammer and mag release. Also the exact edge extractor. what else is worth the time and money to replace. I'm thinking of those things that will increase the consistency and longevity of my 1022.
Thanks as always!

Dakotan Buffers are the BEST!

Best prices and best function!!!!

I just bought 10 of them, just for extras in my 10/22s!!!!

Not that I need the extras because they wear out, but because you never know when you are going to be getting another 10/22!!!!

:D
Bolt buffers:

RIght on Viper; I'll go with Dakotans buffers also. And how right you are about 10/22's being addictive.Three more to go and then I can start on the 77's. Mac 1.

Or find someone else with a 10/22 that shoots yours, then wants one!! Yep, I need order some more, soon.
Anyone know why Weaponkraft's site says to NOT use their recoil buffer with the VQ CNC Steel Bolt? Is VQ's recoil buffer alright to use with their bolt? :)

Razorchain.
Here's the beef with the VQ bolt...

THESE are not my words! I got this directly from Dakotan.

"The VQ bolt will not work with my buffer because of it's charging handle. It slaps into the receiver of the 10-22 because my buffer is softer, and has more give in it than the VQ."

Dakotan also mentioned that some people have radiused the opening in their receivers to get teh VQ bolt to work with his buffer.

Hope this helps!

BTW, DAKOTAN BUFFERS RULE!!!

You just can't argue with a product that DOESN'T wear out!

Sincerely,
GAU-2

Just got my first order from Reed, he is first class and then some......
VQ CNC Bolt

Hey Guys, I'm building yet another 10/22 LR from scratch. I have Reed's buffers in my factory receivers but I'm going with the VQ SS for the new ultimate. Is VQ the only decent buffer for the new receiver? Any other suggestions? Does the VQ buffer work better in the SS receiver than the factory receiver? I don't want to put $1200+ into a new project and have a lame buffer in it.

Just a note, most of you guys are lucky. I've noticed how cheap you can get your 10/22s for, as little as $130 I've seen posts for. In New York, 10/22s can be $225-$300! No Walmart or Wally World here.

Thanks

P.S. I have to concur myself. Reed does seem like a nice guy and his service was quick and excellent. :t
Dwight - Unfortunately that was a post made 12-06-2002. Still no BigMike. :(

Understandable ...... I saw that and thought ..... hhhuuuummmmmmm?

Then noticed the date on the post.

As far as the buffers go, If your using a VQ bolt they can be rough on buffers no matter who's buffer you use from what I understand. I think that Weaponcraft's and Hawk's buffer rate the best in my book.

Ruger10/22's yellow jackets

I use the yellow jacket's by ruger10/22 at cheapgunparts.com. They are an excellent product. I think it's like $7.50 for 2 of them.

They are both the same place.
Doh

See how stupid you can be when you don't get to have one! Gotta move outta here.

Yup. I thought he was back too! Crap. :(

With the Buffers, it's not that the VQ bolt is hard on them in any way, but when a Volquartsen bolt is used in a Ruger Factory receiver there's one slight problem....
My WeaponKraft (and likely other urethane buffers) allow additional rearward bolt travel, and Volquartsen's oversize bolt handle therefore smacks into the rear of the ejection port on the Ruger receiver!
Several guys using Volquartsen bolts in Ruger receivers with my Buffer have simply opened up the back of the ejection port about 1/8" to clear the bolt handle, and it's worked like a charm for them.
As for using my Buffer in a Volquartsen Receiver witha Volquartsen Bolt, IIRC I've heard from a few people that have done it without problems, presumably because of a larger / longer ejection port.
Anybody out there in RFC land who's doing this still around?

I have a weaponcraft bolt buffer and I am using a VQ bolt. I was not aware this combination didn't work properly. What modification is necessary to make it work properly?

thanks,

Then again some people have no problems at all! :D
Did VQ make their bolt handles smaller in diameter when I wasn't looking?
Oh man, I need a vacation! :banghead3 :banghead3
Ok,

I stand corrected! I thought I remembered someone saying something about VQ bolt having an edge at the rear that was damaging the buffers. Either I was remembering incorrectly ..... all together possible, or this guy had a defect!

Hey, no harm bud! If that was happening to someone I would DEFINITELY want to hear about it!

Take Care! -Dakotan
OK I understand better now. BTW, I'm using a MOA receiver with my vq bolt and WK Bolt buffer. I'll have to pay close attention to see if it's working properly or not. I have been getting alot of FTEs but had assumed that was due to the ammo (Federal bulk) CCI Mini Mags seem to work just fine
