Looking to get myself a .22 and I don't want to spend a lot of money. I live two miles from a nice rifle range, so that's where I'm gonna use it (no hunting).

I've done some research and it seems that the best .22LR for less than $250 is the CZ 452 (Trainer version).

Can you guys recommend something better? I've already ruled out the 10/22, so I apologize in advance to the 50 guys that would have recommended that.

Oh yeah, I'm talking about a new rifle too. I'm not interested in getting a used one.

Marlin makes some of the best 22's around in all types of actions, lever, bolt, semi. Also they have good target models and single shots. Thier semi's are a good "bang' for the buck, pardon the pun, but there are a good solid rifle. My favorite is my lever acton Golden 39A, its a man sized lever action that shoots, shorts, longs and long rifles. The 39A will probably be up around 300 although.
You'll probably get as many opinions as doan's has back ache pills and each one will be right, just go out and try one on for size or borrow someones you like(if you like it, its up in the air if you have to return it ;) )

I've got the LONGGGGGGG barreled CZ and I couldn't be happier (well.... yes I could, If I had a CZ Varmint sitting next to it:D)
I'd go with the CZ and not look back!!

'Best' is a tough call. The CZ 452 doesn't have any peers in the accuracy department in its price range. It also has good fit and finish and you can run across some pretty nice looking wood.

Marlin's 25N is nice but plain looking. The upside is easier scope mounting, standard sling studs, and a much better safety (if you aren't hunting with it that last one won't matter much).

The Marlin Model 60 is a reliable old semi-auto but its accuracy doesn't measure up to the two bolt guns mentioned above. I don't know what Thompson TC22s are running these days but they are the cream of the semi-auto crop.

If I had $250 to spend on a 22 I'd go with the CZ and a couple of bricks of Wolf Match Target.

savage Mark 2 LV

I oun a CZ Lux and its wonderful, The savage is a right up there with accuracy too. From all the research Ive done, It should every bit as accurate as the CZ. (Id like to do a side by side test) Its in a laminated stock and has a heavy barrel. I am considering buying one myself. If what I have "read" is true, the the LV is every bit as accurate. I think the CZ is a bit "finer" in fit and finish. The MK 2 can be had for between $200-225 US

I also have a CZ 452 Trainer. It's accurate out of the box and has a far better trigger than the Marlins or Savages that I've fired. I ordered the trigger kit from Brookie, but haven't installed it yet.

If you want to add a scope, Millett Angle Lock mounts work well as does a base kit that Brookie also sells. The iron sights with that adjustable, vent hooded front sight are great for a rifle in this price range. In my opinion, you just can't find a better value for the $ than this rifle.
