If you have experience with the Barracuda style stocks or the sort of stock where the barrel is minimally or not supported by the stock, could you please comment on them?

I've been looking around and they look sharp I think. Just curious what yall think of them.

I was dead set on getting a synthetic but the Barracuda styles really caught my eye after seeing what limited synthetic options there were.

Despite the fact that the cudas look so nice, you could always paint one to look like a synthetic one if you are suffering from black rifle disease.

The Mag is going to be a prairie dog gun and I am still working on that one so it may end up with a bi-pod. My VQ TG2000 for it is off at TTshooter right now and it still needs to be bedded when I get the trigger group back than we will see about a bi-pod. The RRR I am still deciding if I am going to keep stock or not as I have two other projects a 17HM-2 and a 17 HMR right now. I'll post when I get the Mag. done and see how she shoots.

The barracuda (RRR variation) is very comfortable on the bench and off-hand. Balance with the twisted Ruger barrel is not ideal for off-hand of course. The Hornet barracude-style stock catches my eye with its adjustable comb. The rounded fore end is not a plus for me, however.

Here is a pic of mine....my own version of a RRR a few years early..
I saw an early pic of a Turner barracuda and made this one for my "T" model approx 4 or 5 years ago out of an unfinished fajan....many 1000s rounds through it and the barrel is still tight and it fits tight in the stock.

Do any stocks have some curve to the wood under the barrel?

In the "show me pics of your ultimate" thread I've been going through each of the 30 sum pages. I could have sworn that I saw a yellowish (light wood) barracuda with a scope and bi-pod but now I can't seem to find it. Anyone know which one I'm talking about?

I figured I would pop mine up here too. The 'cuda is a great feeling stock. I'm of the opinion it works best with a lightweight barrel, either WP or MR.

Note that on a "real" 'cuda you see the buffer pin. The RRR stock is a bit higher behind the receiver and gives a bit more coverage.

Hi guys,

I wish Turner Customs still made the Barracuda but that is not the case. I designed the stock and made them till I could not keep up and then had Altamont make them for me. Due to problems beyond my control I had to give the rights to the stock to Altamont. They now are the sole producer of the stocks in it's "near" original form. They did make the change to cover the buffer pin at the request of Ruger. They have since added a re-enforcement dowel up through the pistol grip and it is covered by a medallion of some sort in the bottom of the grip.

I might suggest that if you are interested in one of the stocks, contact them and tell them Mike sent you. They are waiting for some new colors that will be machined as soon as it gets to their factory. I talked with them on Monday and as of then the new colors had not arrived. They do however have the std laminates and walnut, right and left hand. I don't know if they have any magnums made up or not but a call wouldn't hurt!

Mine is the origonal style so I think its a turner.

Xavier Breath, Altamont makes all the Barracudas, including the RRR stocks.

Altamont made some Barracudas that did not have the pin covered before Ruger ask them to make the change. Hard to say if it is an original or not.
