How is everyone transporting their guns to matches... What is the preferred method hard case or soft case.

Alt this point, I've only competed with pistols. I just use whatever case/box they came with. I use soft cases for rifles when I go to the range and I'd most likely keep using them.
Soft cases for local travel. Extra pockets to jam thing into, also lighter.
Long guns I use Pelican Storm i3200M or 1750. Those are what I deployed and travel with and have withstood baggage handlers and impatient loadmasters. Pistols either a Pelican case or my range bag, Eberlestock Bang Bang.

I use both, how's that for an answer? It just depends...high value stuff with expensive optics get Pelican hard cases. Traveling, hard cases for sure.

Soft bags are lighter and more convenient so I use them quite a bit too, even for the good stuff.

Hardcase is preferred, never know when you may be involved in an accident. If you have watched the slo-mo's of the way things get violently thrown about in a vehicle, or even ejected, and you like your toys you will want them well cased.
Plano Airglide but they're no longer made.

If you plan to fly, a hard case seems to be a must. I have quite a pile of Pelicans, Plano's, SKB's in a shed here and swore by them for yrs.
Today, even if driving 500 miles, I choose good soft cases, Armageddon, Drago, etc...

I am neither right nor wrong with this statement, but IMO, carrying, uncasing-casing a rifle in a hard case in a public setting is a production. This stems from my belief that rifles should be uncased in the parking area and carried to the firing line-shooting area where all know the orientation of the muzzle.
Flying I use a hard case but for local matches I only use shooting bags. They are easier for me to handle and I'm only shooting 2 guns. I can put all my ammo, hearing protection and accessories stuffed into the bag. My hard cases don't have room for all my stuff.

I have always used hard case. But have a bigger bell scope. Seems a slight bump will knock them off center a touch
