B14R tuner testing Again

Today I started tuner testing again, this time I screwed the ATS tuner in much farther and shot 3 shot groups every 3 clicks out. Shot at 50 yds.
In this gun I’ve shot SK rifle match and SK Biathlon sport, the Biathlon sport shot a bit smaller. Then I tried Lapua Pistol King and it shot the smallest yet so I used that for the tuner testing.
I found this rifle difficult to shoot consistently, it’s no doubt me and not being skilled with a bipod. I’m not liking the ATS tuner as much as a Harrell. I got it cause it screws on but the graduations are difficult to keep track of.

Interesting, I have a EC tuner on the way to experiment with and will report back.

I have that same ATS tuner and getting it on my B14R is on my "to do" list at some point.
I have one too. I was only able to test for a little while on my Tikka. I only got through about half the adjustment range with no real evidence that it's actually working. I planned to do more testing with it but my good ammo is now being saved for ARA factory class matches. I'll probably put in on my 1416 AV at some point when I have more good ammo on hand. In the meantime it basically resides in the case

Another day of tuner testing, this time off a front rest with the EGW bag rider.
There‘s some shots out of the group I can’t explain, a couple missed wind switches might explain a couple shots.
I went out one turn from last time, 5 ticks at a time. There’s something ok at 19-21. Next time I’ll go out one more turn to see if there’s a better setting.

Well I did some shooting with My Bergara B14r with the EC tuner. It definitely affects group size but I'm still playing with it. Best so far was a .21 group at 50 yds with SK Long Range Match.

I really like your target that you are using here. I see you have it from printtargets.net. Are you able to share it or post the settings you used to make this?
Would these tests not be better done indoors? I joined a 110 yard indoor range last week to facilitate my zeroing and practice.

…they most certainly would be, but, for example, where I live, which is not totally in the sticks, the closest indoor 50 yard range is… I don’t know where ;) , probably in Tampa, which is 2 hours away. So people end up working with what’s available.

Sorry I don’t have the settings, you should be able to construct a similar target in a few minutes.

Thanks for putting that up. I messed with it a bit last night but was having trouble getting the result I wanted. Didn’t help that it was after 1am and I couldn’t sleep.
Hi Guys,
I have been making and fitting/accurizing Tuners for about 10 years now. The B14R is a different animal. The standard H&H or Harrels is not going to work because. this is NOT a straight taper barrel. With the short 18" strong tapered barrel, the Tuner needs to be much lighter. I have just finished another B14R, all with the same Tuner. Here's the specs....Aluminum tube 1" OD x 2.350" long, thin wall bored to weigh 1oz. with a steel adjuster ring over the tube at 2oz. All the B14R's liked the weight at, or just in front of the muzzle. This was all I needed to get rid of the verticle from theese rifles....which is the only job of the Tuner actually. Once you like the setup, test it by shooting a 3 shot group....wait about 5 minutes and shoot another round. If the round centers the group, you are good, if not ....keep adjusting. Remember, once you have the barrel Tuned, or Stopped....lock down the Tuner and don't move it....ever. Tuners are not for adjusting to each new lot of ammo, or wind, or a bad day. That is guessing, trust it once you can wait a few minuutes and center the group!, Have fun!,

I'd like a picture of that tuner if you have one?

here you go.... this is the current setup but I now have an Athlon 10-40x55. If you look behind the trigger, you can see another Tube I just turned for testing, and I am making another steel ring that is narrower.

Using set-screws not threading?

I was thinking to turn something approximately barrel diameter then threading it.
For testing and finding the best configuration I just use a set screw for ease. When it is set and done...I will turn a one piece unit with no moving parts. I just set up a hinge and fulcrum test fixture to find the amount of weight out past the muzzle, then turn a new one to meet that number. Not my theory, I thank Bill Calfee for teaching that one.
