Allowances for Old Guys???

Both NRL22 and PRS22 have rules to allow Old Guys to shoot from alternative positions because of physical limitations.

What allowances have you seen. I'm not as flexible as I used to be. If I have to go prone, you might as well throw a pillow down there with me, because I'm going to be there for a while. I can't raise my head enough to see the sights anyway. ;)

I'm curious what you have seen at matches. There is some talk about starting an Old Guys Outlaw match at a local range where props will be used, but modified for all shooters. Maybe props on top of benches where nobody has to go low.

PRS is all about the props and positions, take those away and you don't have PRS.
It seems that some clubs have already started doing matches similar to what we were thinking. We're going to do a trial run this Saturday to see how it works out. We're going to have some NRL/PRS type stages where you can shoot off the regular props or shoot from a portable bench set up beside the props. Powerline Range near St Clairsville Ohio. We're also going to have some 50 yard benchrest ARA stuff set up for people to try. Bring your own 22LR rifle or we will have loaners on each stage. Some ammo will be provided with the loaners until we run out.

Here are some of the props we have set up for Saturday. Hanging steel targets from 25 yards out to 200 yards. Shoot from the props or the bench with bipod and rear bag. Shooters choice. Shooters will be under cover in case of rain.

Today is trial run day. Weather looks like it's going to be pretty good. Supposed to get up into the 60s today. Might be a little windy but we can practice hold off. Targets are somewhat big for the distances, so it should work out just fine.
Expecting many people?
We didn't have any idea how many to expect. It was a good turnout. People started rolling in before the 10 AM start and we had steady shooters until about 2:30. We had all levels of experience from beginners to veteran competitors. It was a good day. Some shot the practice stages and some were just learning to shoot rifles at distance. I saw a lot of smiles. :) The range is definitely going ahead with regular matches of outlaw steel with tactical benchrest option.

Sounds like it was a good outing. New shooters and experienced shooters. Good mix.

Time for an update.

Powerline Range is going deep down the rabbit hole. ;) Plans now are for regularly scheduled monthly matches.

There will be 5 to 8 stages shot on hanging steel from 25 yards out to 200 yards with corresponding target sizes. Stages will be shot from normal PRS style props for those that choose to do that. Right beside the props will be a sturdy semi-portable bench for the more seasoned shooters to shoot from. It is the shooters choice which style they use at each match. The same targets and engagement order will be used on each stage. Shooters will be scored separately.

The MD is busy building sturdy props because there is some thought to holding center fire PRS style matches there.

Much thanks to the folks from MARS for the original idea and thanks to everyone who has contributed on this thread

We have several 70 somethings in our group, all are capable of making the shots. The problem is that the arthritis/stiffness/pain limits our ability to change positions 5-6-9 times in 120 seconds. If we can only get off 8 shots on a couple stages, 40 points lost is tough. I wonder if an additional 10-15 seconds for oldsters would be a possibility. In the end, I guess we shoot it for the fun, not to get on the podium.
As long as everyone in my group is also only getting off 8 shots it keeps the competition roughly the same. Or if the group average is 8 shots make that the max number in the same 120 seconds.
I also am in that group that can still shoot but getting in and out of shooting positions is not going to be fast!

At the match we'll get to see where all our Social Security benefits go.
