Ordered a new takedown screw from amazon hopefully it will help there is a huge difference in the one I have and the ones I've seen online thanks for the help thus far I will update within a week or so

It sounds like it might as well let Ruger take care of it. I do not remember if it is a new rifle or not. But instead of you waiting on new screws and playing around with it, might as well give it to Ruger and get it back in about the same amount of time. I sent a Mark III off that was brand new over the Holidays. I believe sending it and getting it back was just 2 weeks.

that sounds like stripped threads to me
+1...

IF the receiver threads are stripped, it would be prudent to strip the receiver, secure properly in a vise and drill to next size larger threads...1/4"x 20...AND make a 'pillar' mount bushing to install in the stock to ensure a FIRM bottoming of the take down screw.

it's more time consuming than difficult and can be accomplished with most garage workshop tools.
