I recently went on the hunt for another rimfire Rim Thickness gauge. Not wanting to spend $50.00 plus for a Stoney Point or some like quality I stumbled upon an easy solution. Like many of the shooters within this forum I just happened to have an old factory take off barrel lying around. I first cut it off to a length of 1 1/2 " inches. A friend of mine who has a lathe chucked it up and faced it off to 1" (overall all length). Now I simply drop the round into the chamber, slap a Dial Caliper on it and read my rim thickness as I segregate my ammo into lots. I'm sure that this is not something new. But it works well enough for me.
