The breech block assembly is actually the bolt face. There is a differance between 22magnum and 22lr. and they have different part numbers. Although the 22 magnum breech block will work 99.9% of the time fireing the 22lr. round, accuracy can suffer.
Ruger will not sell this part.

OK, I must have got lucky, I have both and have switched them back and forth and can't tell any difference. I suppose you have tried Brownells, thats were I got the trigger gaurd.

Yes, I tried Brownells and Numrich Gun Parts Corporation. No luck.

If you take the 22-magnum breechblock out of the receiver and place a 22 magnum round in the face you can see it snaps in-between the extractor claws as sits nice and snug in the face. If you do the same with a 22lr. round it is much more loose and sloppy but the extractor claws do hold it in place, albeit barely.

I'll settle on a used one if someone has one to offer for sale.
The only identifying mark on my 22-magnum breechblock is a letter "M" stamped on the back end that fits into the bolt handle.
I suppose the "M" stands for magnum.
Ruger list it as part # KJ20901T and the 22lr. as KJ20900T.

SD,
Thanks for the offer, but I really would want to keep the Magnum breech block so I can switch when needed.
If I have no luck finding a 22lr. breech block I will take you up on your offer.

If you don't mind having a single-shot, simply buy a .17 Green Mountain barrel or Ruger barrel and install it. I have one and it is the most accurate .17 I own. The only thing you have to concern yourself with is that it won't eject an UNFIRED round unless you take out the magazine, open the bolt as far as possible, and pop the round out with your fingers from underneath.

If you want to keep it as a repeater, there is a bit more to it. There is a thread on it here on RFC if you'll do a search.

Considering the differences

In .22LR/.17HM2 and .22WMR/.17HMR case heads....

How does the Sako Quad rifle, with four barrels/four calibers and one bolt (boltface), handle this situation?

Regards Bill :)

I just measured the bolt face on a LR Bolt and on a Magnum Bolt. The opening on both is .285. The difference in the two bolts is the length of the groove on the bottom. The magnum bolt looks larger, due to it being closer to the lens. Otherwise they are the same.

Thanks Old man river,

I am glad somebody cleared that up. I really cannot see the difference in your picture though. Which grove? Are you saying that the depth and width of the breech reccess is the same? Shouldn't the magnum be deeper?

The depth and width are the same. The bolts show 2 grooves. Notice the difference between the lower groove on each of them. The groove on the magnum bolt does not go all the way to the face of the other half of the 2 piece bolt. The half with the locking lugs.
