I've also completed 7 - 10/17's, plus 1 - 96/17 using 77/17 barrels.
Then there is the 10/17 using the barrel from a 96/17.
Lots of fun and lots of ammo burnt up testing and tuning.
2 more soon to be completed buy special order for lefties.
We got the barrel out of the Anshutz pretty easy after we turned down a brass rod to fit the action tube. My son who was holding the barrel caught it by it's last two inches when it flew out after the fifth hard wack with the hammer. The barrel and action appear to have been taper fit by a couple or three thousanths. My buddy the machinist is matching the shoulder on the Anshutz barrel on the GM 17 barrel and next chance we get we'll head space the bolt.
Found pull off 22 mag barrels at Clark's. Great prices and they seem to have a bushel of 77/22 mag barrels. Bought two for the action project. Any one know where the single shot message board is? Life is great in America! RR
CHIEF SAYS : MY headdress is off to all who have risked their
time and money to achive the ultimate 17HMR firearm of choice.
For myself and Ted and others who take what we have and
make what we want. Its a step ahead in the game of Rimfire
conversions. WE- dont complain , WE dont ask , WE dont wait.
Well EXCEPT maybe on ammo.
Another partner in the game is Tom Volquartsen and Scott.
They deserve praise , in offering the 10-17HMR on the market-
place. Despite all the fears of Liability issues , they (pioneers
of Custom 10-22's) stood fast with their claims of 17 custom
rifles. ( no promises, no maybes ) They said "here it is ".
Yes they are were and are the first producers of the 17HMR
semiautos. . And a marvelous semiauto it is. I am proud
to own # 43 of their first run.
So the poll - goes on . THANK YOU to ALL.
I would be interested in a factory 77/17 barrel. Has anybody taken one off and replaced it with an aftermarket barrel? (I have a 77/22 Magnum with a factory sporter barrel...and am considering adding the .17 barrel to it)
