Seems like we had this argument before, but a .22 with a match chamber will not reliably extract unfired rounds or happily chamber every kind of ammunition. This came as news when I started into nice .22's, but it just makes sense - people aren't surprised when a Corvette is finicky about gasoline, so why is this any different?

If he had a spent round, check it for scratches. Is the chamber clean? I'd start there, then move up to scrubbing with bore paste and finally graduate to polishing the chamber. Check the extractors, too - these have been consistent problem areas in the 504 and others have reported them in the 547. Their cure was a new extractor/plunger/spring assembly or contouring the existing one.
