I was at a local gun shop today when an older gentleman walked in IRATE because he bought a 547 and it would not extract spend WIN Xperts relaibly. Seems that a custom rimfire with a match chamber and shilen barrel doesn't like Win Xperts...Who da' thunk it?

He was absolutely irate when the guy behind the couner tried to explane to him that it has a match chambr and was most likely desined for very precise ammo like eley, or lapua. only made it worse and he demanded that they refund him his money immediately.

am i mising something, maybe he spent all his piggy bank on the rifle and didnt feel like shelling out the money for ammo. Am i wrong ir am i missing something.

You just can't please some of the folks any of the time---

You're probably right though--spent big bucks on the rifle and thought "all that money so it will shoot anything I feed it". Assumptions are setups for disappointments.

I agree with you, but most end users don't like match chambers. Tell the fella I've got a 504 barrel I'll trade him for that lousy Shilen barrel.

Am I missing something here? Why do people put ammo in your 22 and not shoot it?

That has always puzzled me some too. It's pretty rare for me to eject an unfired 22lr.

I use lots of Xpert HP, in my budget rifles.... my Rossi 62 showed it some love today, but liked PMC Moderator more.....I think my gunsmith still has my 504 barrel we could give him two for one on the Shilen.

Seems like we had this argument before, but a .22 with a match chamber will not reliably extract unfired rounds or happily chamber every kind of ammunition. This came as news when I started into nice .22's, but it just makes sense - people aren't surprised when a Corvette is finicky about gasoline, so why is this any different?

Maybe I am reading this wrong but I believe that he meant spent instead of "spend". This would mean that the fired rounds would not extract.

correct sorry my laptop battery was running low and the typing goes to hell when that happens, it doesnt always register the key strokes relaibly. they were fired rounds. anf after firing they wanted to hang in there and stick before being forced out, doing god knows what to the chamber

If he had a spent round, check it for scratches. Is the chamber clean? I'd start there, then move up to scrubbing with bore paste and finally graduate to polishing the chamber. Check the extractors, too - these have been consistent problem areas in the 504 and others have reported them in the 547. Their cure was a new extractor/plunger/spring assembly or contouring the existing one.
