Time to start planning for 2023.
What matches are already planned, where and when?
Any new clubs starting any form of silhouette?
Any clubs planning state or regional championships that have not done so before?
Someday maybe the NRA will get around to making a decision on where and when Silhouette Nationals will be held.
Match directors and clubs that usually have annual events ,please post soon as possible. That eliminates the possibility of conflicting dates.
Remember match directors,it takes 3 months to get posted in SSUSA Coming Events,so get your regional, state, registered and approved matches in early.
Also to competitors, don’t forget the annual fee to NRA beginning 2023.
Each of us should reach out to some prospective shooter for silhouette and offer ammo and a gun to try.
Its a small price to pay to keep the sport growing, not just kids ,bring some of those safe queen silhouette rifles out that you started with and let someone try where you left off.

So if your planning on shooting the Leveraction Nationals and the Sierra Classic HP silhouette match put one more rifle in the car and try this new game.
Sweet! Wish I could use my 1710, but it has a diopter sight on it... guess I'll have to go with either a 552Rem or 39A... but I'd like to give this a try with whatever I can dig up. Thanks for the heads up.
Fairfax Rod & Gun Club in Northern VA will be hosting their annual War Rifle Match on January 15th.

"War Rifle Match and Egg Shoot, January 15th, practice at 9, match at 10. Our annual War Rifle match is on again, this time on Jan. 15th. The War Rifle match in general is a 40 shot rifle silhouette match with mostly old rifles, or replica of same. The rules of the rifle is that the rifle would have been a rifle used in some war, some place in the world since smokeless powder. This year, more rifles are allowed, to include rifles or replicas of those which could have been used in the wars in the U.S. against American Indians. Therefore, Spencer Rifles, Henry Rifles, Winchesters, etc., or replicas of those, as well as trapdoor rifles. Basically any rifle from the Civil War era that you can safely shoot smokeless powder in. (The match director realizes that a lot of these were black powder rifles to begin with, but black powder cannot be allowed due to the excess smoke on the range, perhaps blocking competitors from a view of their target!) The rifle has to be safe to shoot and the match director and range officers reserve the right to make sure of a rifle’s safety on request. Rules for shooting clothing is no heavy shooting coats allowed, or shooting gloves. Shooters can dress for the weather which is close to the shooting togs, but not actually specific shooting clothes. Shooting will be done at 200 meters, no matter what caliber or kind of rifle is fired. All shooting is standing, unsupported. Fee for this match – $5.
Now, the Egg Shoot: An egg is hung on a string at 200 meters. Competitors can use any rifle, shotgun (slugs only), or pistols. Any cartridge except those not allowed by club rules. Standing unsupported position only. Each shot the competitor fires is $1. If the competitor hits the egg, he/she gets all the money in a pot beside the shooter. A miss, and the pot gets another dollar until someone hits the egg. We will shoot 4 relays of the War Rifle match, then take a break for about 15 mins and shoot at the egg. We will do this each 4 relays. This doesn’t postpone the War Rifle match much.
Both these are wonderfully fun matches. In years past, matches are usually over before 3 p.m., and usually, someone goes home with a broken egg and about $80 more in their pockets!"

Rifles used in the past have been ARs, AUGs, Garands, Enfields, Galil etc. I don't see it in these instructions, but usually the caliber must match the rifle as issued ie no AR in 300blk. Can't use a .357 lever gun, but you could a 30-30.

If anyone is interested in attending, please contact me and I can give you the match directors e-mail or give you the gate code instructions when they are sent out

At what target at 200?
All animals. Chickens are the only full sized animal, everything else is scaled down. There will also be a target setter.
What is a Sierra Classic? Sounds closer to me from the name and that would be considered. I plan to shoot a similar amount as this year without leaving the west coast.

Sorry struglx4, its sounds west coast, but is a north east event. Sierra bullets sponsors the match, so hence the name.

Steyrx3, that war rifle match sounds like a lot of fun. I have an old K96, but don't know how accurate it is, only shot a few rounds through it and know the front sight isnt tall enough. You mentioned using 30-30's though, that has me thinking I will make the trek up in January. I've got a good running 94 centennial that I use for lever action silhouette and it'll need a mid winter leg stretch. So for the egg shoot I assume that a full blown silhouette rig will be allowed? Are the details for this match listed on your clubs website?

It is a lot of fun and just to point out there are prizes for irons and scoped rifles.

What I quoted was the e-mail sent from the match director.

Basically as long as it's not a black powder rifle, it was an issued rifle by any country and in the correct caliber...come out and have a lot of fun shooting a 200m scaled down war rifle silhouette match!

I don't really talk much in person, but bring the K96, people would love to see it, and if you just want to try to dial it in I can try to spot for you; there are some large plates with black circles to dial in at 200m
I might bring the old k96, though it would require aiming a foot under the targets. I'd like to shoot my win 94, the silhouette lever nationals are coming up and this would be some fun practice. If I can hit chickens and scaled down P, T, R at 200 then full scale rams should be easy.

@Chickenhater
FYI, if you come to the war rifle match, I plan on making some chicken & sausage gumbo...it's my first time making a large amount and reheating/having it simmer outdoors so it could be hit or miss, but it will be free; I just ask for an honest opinion of it ;)
Looking forward to trying the gumbo. If the weather cooperates I plan to be there.

Steyrx3, looked at the details for the war rifle match and noticed the location as Lea Valley, is that different than the clubs physical address? If so, is there an addy I can put into navigation?
