Time to start planning for 2023.
What matches are already planned, where and when?
Any new clubs starting any form of silhouette?
Any clubs planning state or regional championships that have not done so before?
Someday maybe the NRA will get around to making a decision on where and when Silhouette Nationals will be held.
Match directors and clubs that usually have annual events ,please post soon as possible. That eliminates the possibility of conflicting dates.
Remember match directors,it takes 3 months to get posted in SSUSA Coming Events,so get your regional, state, registered and approved matches in early.
Also to competitors, don’t forget the annual fee to NRA beginning 2023.
Each of us should reach out to some prospective shooter for silhouette and offer ammo and a gun to try.
Its a small price to pay to keep the sport growing, not just kids ,bring some of those safe queen silhouette rifles out that you started with and let someone try where you left off.

Sadly I only know of clubs dropping silhouette for 2023.
You are right though, the people still in the game need to promote it, it shouldn't be entirely on the remaining match directors to do so. With setting up for each match, sending out the monthly flyers and reporting scores to the NRA, they have a lot on their plate already.
I have offered to help with setting up and tear down plus doing some leg work to obtain prizes. I'd like to see some small 6-8 match series ran with something like, best 5 outta 8 scores going for series finale awards. I feel that putting on monthly matches, March through November actually decreases turn out. People decide... "well I'll mow the grass today... there will be another match next month", so they kinda take them for granted. Running that many matches also takes its toll on the match directors, so I think running about 1/2 - 2/3 the matches and offering a best of approach might boost turn out. Besides, people love prizes, so its an added incentive to get out and shoot.
Just my 2c on the topic.

We're still going strong down here in Houston. We have matches year-round for air rifle, smallbore, and lever gun (smallbore and pistol cartridge only) and we're hosting the state Smallbore championship match next month. The other club on the south side of town also does smallbore and lever gun (all three) so there is always a match going on to suit your style.

Our club is in the early design phases of a new multi-discipline range (up to 600 yards) so we can shoot full-distance high power, half-distance high power, and big bore lever gun. There is similar work going on in multiple locations in Louisiana, so the Gulf coast region is going to be a growing hotbed of silhouette activity even more than it is now.

That is good news and reassuring of the sports health. At one time we had 3 clubs, fairly close in proximity, and each hosted SB silhouette matches on different weekends. Along with one club hosting leveraction matches on the 3rd weekend, you could shoot a match every weekend of the month. Then came the plandemic and ammo shortages, and turnout dropped from the mid 20's - low 30's, to 5-10 participants... sad.

Well with the team of a retired match director, the current, but retiring, match director and me as the grunt... The lever action silhouette matches will resume at Piedmont gun club in Rutherford county NC, for 2023. It is currently planned as a six match series, with your best four match scores counting for series awards. I will pound the pavement, and/or internet, for prizes, post match info on this site, as well as steelchickens.com. Benny will post results on FB. The match schedule is to be set as follows: the first Saturday on the months of March, April, May, September, October and December. Practice for pistol cartridge will begin at 10am, match starts at 11am. After a quick target change, small bore lever practice will start and after about 30-45 min the match will begin. Center fire will be the last match of the day. PC and small bore are shot using free standing 1/2 scale silhouettes and CF uses full scale swingers. Hope some of you guys and gals will come out and join in on the fun.

Will .22lr reliably knock down a 1/2 size target? What distances are lever action shot at...I scanned though the rule book, but didn't see it?

ETA: there was a guy shooting a lever action .22 (iron sights) at the "Critters Match" a few months ago, but those are 1/5 targets at 15M, 20M, 30M, and 40M.

Chickens and Pigs are no problem with standard velocity. Turkeys will go with a good hit with SV or any hit with HV. Rams are iffy... if you hit them in the butt and/or they are set light they will go. A low shoulder hit has a decent chance of a ringer.

Smallbore lever-action distances are 40, 50, 75, and 100 meters. Not sure about rifle cartridge though.

Is it a "ringer" if they tip over but don't hit the ground? I've had that happen with chickens, pigs, and rams...oddly enough never turkeys...they go flying or get missed completely. 🤣

No, if you hit it but it just stands there on the rail/stand.

If the foot of the target is no longer in contact with the pad, or rail, it's a hit. If hit, even if its turned completely sideways, but the foot is still on the rail then it's a miss... aka a "ringer".
Cowpokey, this is a new game and not in NRA rules. Also shot on 22 half size targets and not regulated to standard velocity ammo.Hitting them is first priority. If there is a problem with knockdown, work on that later. The challenge is production rifles with original open sights not target rifles.

If it doesn't fall to the ground it doesn't count in our game. A target can spin around, stay on the rail and it doesn't count.

What is a Sierra Classic? Sounds closer to me from the name and that would be considered. I plan to shoot a similar amount as this year without leaving the west coast.

Sierra Classic is Ridgway's highpower championship. Keystone is their lever and Lapua for smallbore, but that's more like an endurance shoot!
