1022 SILHOUETTE SET UP

I am considering a KIDD Supergrade for a silhouette gun. I know, I know, you just can’t shoot the scores with a 1022 that you can with a bolt gun. The single load rhythm with a bolt gun just helps you stay in the “ zone”. I’m just facing reality. I’m NEVER going to be at the nationals competing in a shoot off for the center podium position. I have my own range on the farm and I like to get in “MY” zone and push away worries related to life. No phone calls, no rat race . Just me and the silhouettes.
The KIDD 1022 just seems like a modern precision instrument that also has a “ FUN” factor.
Has anyone built a 1022 dedicated just for silhouette? I would love to see some builds.

Well, now we go down another rabbit hole with the vudoo. Yes, it too can be done in a manner to meet Hunter Silhouette requirements. This one was challenged repeatedly and passed all hunter class criteria, including a tapered barrel (dial calipers proved the carbon fiber barrel tapers over it’s entire length).

Carbon fiber AG composites stock, timney CE two stage trigger set at 2.1lbs total, hawkins M5 dbm,

40 moa rail with a Nightforce 4-32x mil xt scope mounted with NF lightweight titanium bolt alum rings. Had to use the nf rings to save weight as every other ring option put me over the 8.5 lb weight limit.

Being light is costly though. This rifle pushed me over the edge about being nervous and having it stolen from the car or some other catastrophic loss—— went out and got a supplemental insurance rider that covers everything range related from Eastern insurance.

It shoots in silhouette as well as my 10/22 Kidd and Anschutz 1712. I am currently AAA classified and knocking on master scores on my good days and slumming down to AA on my bad days. IMHO it’s not so much equipment as form and concentration when you get to that level. The nice thing about the vudoo is it can be used in other disciplines like nrl/prs that require fast, easy mag changes on the clock, something the anschutz 1712 does not do well for me.

Presents the same issue as with the Annie 1761, the magazine occupies the spot my weak hand likes to rest. Otherwise that is one sweet looking rig.
I like the idea of building a hunter class silhouette rifle out of a 10/22. Please let us know how it turns out!

You'll like it until you try it.

Well, I shipped my project parts to Joe Chacon today. He’s fitting a Shilen barrel and aftermarket bolt. I’m looking forward to a different approach to the silhouette game. I’ll post pictures and comments as this moves along.

I shot a couple matches with 10/22 last year. To me, the lock time feels a lot slower than with a bolt action. And there is a little recoil impulse from the bolt movement. But there's no reason you can't have plenty of fun shooting silhouettes with a 10/22.

A friend ran a 10/22 build years ago. His was set up as a standard only rifle. I believe the details are a Briley reciever, an Anschutz 54.18 barrel, volquartsen trigger, PR boosted leupold efr scope and a modified factory stock. He shot into AAA class with it, before switching to Anschutz bolt guns. So I id say you can do nearly as well with a SA, maybe equally as well, as with a bolt gun.
An Anschutz 54.18 barrel will fit on a 10/22?
