i have a savage FV .17hmr. It shoots great at 50 yrds 5 shots around 1/2". but then when i go to 100 a couple will be 1" high and to the left then the other 3 will be on. It's weird because the first 2 are right beside eachother then the next 3 on target. I have a 6-24 power scope and a lighter trigger. It only has about 40 rounds through it since i last cleaned it. I'm shooting off of a bipod and a rear rest. Any ideas why it shoots bad at 100?

Are you using wind flags? The wind will really move those light bullets at 100 yards. Even if you are shooting in light wind, you need to watch it because of switches. Light wind switches can cause vertical dispersion, which sounds like the problem you're having. You don't have to have anything fancy, just a few plastic ribbons will help a lot.

Hard to say without seeing what you're doing but it's probably got something to do with your technique rather than the rifle.

Sounds like you may be "canting" the rifle? Easy to do shooting off a bipod. If you shoot right-handed a small difference in the way you're leaning into the gun might cause the same effect without you actually twisting the piece.

what do you mean by "leaning into the gun". I'm pretty sure i'm not canting the gun. I always have the reticle straight. I don't think it was my shooting ability because i've worked up a load for my .243 that shoots 1" 5 shot groups at 200 with the same setup (bipod and back rest). It was windy so i guess i'll just have to try agan. I also had my AO adjusted accordingly

At 50 yds the wind don't bother the 17 very much but at 100 yds its a different story.
Before you start to shoot just sit and watch the wind for a few minutes and see where the prevailing wind is coming from.
Take your time and try to shoot in the SAME wind every shot.
The worst wind to shoot in is one that is comeing at you or behind you.
If you watch the wind that rifle will shoot 1" at 100 yds.
Make you some wind flags and learn to use them.
Start with one flag 15 yds in front of the rifle,That is the most important flag to watch.
