I am looking for open sights for my 10/22.

I would like to go to a notch and post sight set that has screw adjustments for windage and elevation or the tangent sights like those found on the CZ 452 LUX instead of the folding blade rear and bead front sights that are currently on the gun.

Any suggestions, Thanks in advance.

10/22 sight options; front sight adjustment

Millett makes a nice-looking sight set for the 10/22, similar to target-pistol sights. It's a square notch, white-outline rear and a square-blade front. You might also consider the neat little Guide aperture rear from Williams. It mounts right in the factory rear scope mount holes, and can usually be adjusted to zero with the factory front. A higher front is a good idea, though.

By the way -- anyone have experience changing front sights on the 10/22? Mine was soldered in place in the dovetail, and had to pushed by a gunsmith with a Williams tool to adjust windage. How difficult is it to fit a new dovetail front sight?

hey db22,

someone in a past life must have done some "smith" work on your front sight. cant figure out why it would be soldered, as it is a press fit from da factory. but, yea, if ya wanna replace the front sight, place a piece of 2x4 under the bbl end and install it with a small brass punch from right to left <<< looking from the receiver end. removal is da opposite direction >>>> removing the solder is another problem. wouldn't wanna use an open flame. try a soldering iron to heat the solder and a small stiff brush to clean the solder as it softens. hope this helps your project

Adjustable (aperture) sights for 10/22

Lot's of good advise in this thread.

I use a Williams Guide (Aperture) sight. The rear is EASY to install.
uses factory holes. It does require (I strongly recommend) a TALLER
front sight. (I got an XTRA Tall front sight from RUGER.) But Williams
makes one, as well. (Available from Brownell's or Williams)
I had my front sight swapped out by a Gunsmith. Also had a blank
installed where the fold down rear sight was.

Williams also makes an Adjustable Aperture Sight, with optional
knobs for windage and elevation. You would need to have your
10/22 reciever DRILLED and TAPPED to accept the sight.

I really like my WGRS Aperture sight. Quick target aquisition,
place the bead and squeeze off rounds.

Simple, inexpensive, easy to use.

Good luck and good shooting.

Front sight adjustment, rimfirin' in general

Ricochet,

Thanks! I couldn't remember the correct direction to drift front sights. Actually, a local gunsmith used his Williams Sight Pusher to break the solder seal and adjust windage for me. The blade stayed put. Don't know why the factory soldered the dang thing in there.

Thom T,

Yep! This forum is my second home. I used to play with big-bore handloading, obsessing about all the details therein :( . This place reminded me of the simple pleasures to be had on the range and in the field, at 1.5 to 3 cents a shot. Hooray for rimfires! :D

Dovetail Blanks

I got mine from the Gunsmith that did my trigger.

But Digger has the idea. Who would ever think . . .

A "Selection" of dovetail blanks???

$15 bucks + shipping! That's a brick and a half of ammo.

Because my rifles lean toward the "utilitarian" in looks anyway, I have filed dovetail blanks out of pieces of aluminum or brass stock, then paint them or leave 'em just as they are--tarnished brass looks particulary nice.

I paint the aluminum flat black (couple coats) then rub it with a rag, it gives a nice "matte" finish like the aluminum scope mounts.

BTW, I also often just leave the slot open for that devil-may-care look. :coolgleam
